Sony is selling heaps and heaps of ps2 hd collections and is putting ps2 games on the ps store up for sale. We don't get bc because they are still making a lot of money on them this way.

true that is hard to code, but you can see how games are when they are very well coded for PS3, such has Uncharted 2 and 3, killzone 2 and 3, mgs 4, god of war 3

the point is that it would take less time and resources to develop those games on a different platform and they would look and perform better. Coding something like a game that is very serial it is difficult to simply utilize the parallel hardware without a ton of extra effort.

I'll still buy one.I started out as a console gamer with the original Nintendo NES all the way to the current generation of consoles.I just hope that graphically, the new PS4 could be as powerful as say,a GTX 560 up to a GTX 570.
The problem here is that Sony invested a lot into fast CPU for the PS3. Then realized that all that investment ever did was make the console hard to work with and also expensive. Then, hopefully, somewhere along the line they realized that you really don't need that much CPU power to play games. Especially in consoles where everything can be super optimized. A good quad with low clocks should be what they use in the PS4, if they have any brains.

Actually, all three of you are wrong tongue.gif There isn't proof that Cell is faster than a modern X86 CPU in "certain tasks."

CBE was able to achieve it's throughput from highly parallel applications, but if you look at any x86 floating-point benchmark, the Core i7's or even the Core 2 Quad's are as fast or faster.

If you were to write an application that was tailored specifically for x86 processors, Cell wouldn't stand a chance.

Those games could have just as easily been made to work on the Xbox 360, and would have looked no different. The only difference may have been that they could have required multiple DVDs, rather than one blu-ray.

I think what the person meant when he said the Cell Processor was faster than any desktop CPU was... the Cell Processor is a single core to my knowledge, and please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it use a form of something like ultra-threading or something that's like a super hyper-threading so it splits the CPU into eight threads instead of just two or four even?

I mean, if that were utilized correctly with... even an Athlon 64 based quad core, you'd have a hell of a gaming processor. thumb.gif (Just an example of course, I know games don't make use of 32 threads... yet... but I can dream right? tongue.gif)
