Metro 2033: Is there any stutter fix yet.

Some people claim to play Metro 2033 without any stutter, but I get the feeling they might just be the kinds of people who don't notice.

After watching this godforsaken game stutter through four different machines, I am at my wit's end, and about to write it off as another great game rendered unplayable due to a rotton engine.

The game stutters/judders all over the place for no good reason. It's NOT loading pauses - it can happen predictably just rotating on the spot. Here, right at the beginning of Bourbon, "Lost Tunnel", for example. When I stand on the indicated position:

y4nWu.jpg

Then rotate, panning smoothly, and every time I pan past the area of wall indicated below, there will be a distinct juddering:

18QQC.jpg

This kind of thing happens all throughout the game, despite high framerates and V-Sync/Triple Buffer (which usually make for a smooth experience). Happens in DX9, DX11, High, Very High, V-Sync On, V-Sync Off.

I've disabled HT, I've disabled Aero.

Hi!
I have played this game a lot and do not remember any stuttering. Trust me, I notice every stutter in-game when i play any game. when framerate drops from 50 to 45 on BF3 I notice it at once for example. What graphics card do you have? I've played this game with two different setups, one time with a Core 2 Duo setup with HD4870 and another time with a i7 setup and GTX580, don't remember getting frustrated about any stuttering on any of my playthroughs. The only bug that ruined the game for me was a bug which made the weapons disappear and never reappear, this did of course ruin the playthrough, which was my second one. I guess you have tried with all settings on low and worked your way from there. I can see if I still have the game installed when I get home and if I do I can see how it works on my computer.

Current specs:

GPU: GTX 580 3GB
CPU: 2600k
RAM: 4x4GB 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 2T
Sound Card: Creative X-Fi Titanium HD
NIC: Intel Pro/1000 CT
Motherboard: Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3

Just before when I had my z68 mobo installed, Metro 2033 had an even worse stutter issue on top of the usual stutter. It was sort of constant 'micro' stutter (not dual GPU stutter obviously), and it was happening absolutely everywhere. That wasn't normal though, and it's gone now. I don't know whether it was the mobo swap, or reformat that fixed it - prettey sure I used exactly the same driver set...

Well, you almost have the exact same setup as me, so my performance should be any better than yours. I have the 1,5GB version of GTX580 and 8 gigs of RAM.
The RAM can be be the problem, not likely, but there is a chance that it is causing worse performance. 16GB of RAM usually make games play worse than having 8GB or 4GB of RAM, but should by all means don't make the game stutter with your setup. It's more like a max 5 FPS difference. How much RAM has to do with performance issues variates from game to game.

It's not the RAM because I was using 2x4GB just before and it was no different. Going from 2 to 4 modules makes about 1fps difference benchmarking(due to memory controller load I guess) - probably withing margin of error, and in the game there is no detectable difference.

There's just no way that what you're experiencing is a universal issue. An "unplayable" amount of stutter? If others were experiencing that, they'd notice. I've played hundreds of hours of Metro and haven't seen what you're describing.

Have you tried a config with DX11 options customized? Such as, DoF on/off, and Tessalation on/off?

Unplayable to me. I can and have completed the game, but there was enough stutter to make the game thoroughly unenjoyable. You know it's bad when you finish the whole game and it's been a troubleshooting excercise the whole way though.

I have tried those two DX11 checkboxes on and off. On just killed performance(especially DOF) and didn't help stutter.

I see a lot of unresolved threads that seem similar to my issue like this:

I had some stutter problem like you then I disabled advanced dof and advanced physx and then it was smooth everywhere. Plus I don't think the advanced physx is really worth the performance hit in this game.
Sorry for this what could be dumb question but did you save settings and restart the game after you unchecked the boxes?

Yes, I always restart even when it doesn't prompt.

I tried raising the games priority to High (wouldn't let me Real Time), and I checked DEP - it doesn't apply to Metro by default.

Are you sure that you have the latest drivers for your sound card. May cause stutter. If you have then I am out of ideas what could be causing it headscratch.gif
