Loop drain question

So Im pondering setting up this rasa rs240 kit, and I just want to see the plan for a quick disconnect fitting in the eventuality of draining the loop. Here is my question...

338

I am looking at that koolance quick disconnect male and female connector, but once I have my t-fitting/drain line up, are the 2 qd fittings the end of the line, or will I have to run additional tubing AFTER the qd fittings and plug it myself? Is that last qd fitting in actuality, able to be the "plug"?

Im looking at the male and female versions of this.

And using this as the T.

You need a male and female quick disonnect fitting. In normal operation you would just leave the female qd fitting connected to the drain line. Then, when you wanted to drain your loop, you would connect the male qd fitting to the female fitting and already have a hose on the male fitting that would lead to your jug.

By having one qd fitting in y our loop, it is essentially plugged. When you connect two, it is unplugged and will flow free.

You could do all of this, or just get a T-valve tongue.gif

And how to I connect a barb to that female fitting thats always in the loop? Does it come with one on it or would I have to buy a g1/4" barb and screw it on?

And IMO, with quick disconnects, you dont even need to do this with the T you have in the drawing. Just replace the T with the quick disconnects, and get an extra quick disconnect to plug into the side coming from the CPU to drain. Same concept, uses less tubing and space, but you would need 3 qd fittings.

You can buy the Koolance qd fittings with a barb or compression fitting. I have the ones with compression fittings.

You would need two male or two female and one of the other. Doesnt matter which. If you left the female connected to the CPU side and the male to the res inlet side, you would need a second male with a hose attached to connect to the female when you drain.

Unless you open both sides of the QD it won't drain. Air has to be allowed to get into the loop.

QD has a barb, so, QD fastens to drain T by Barb to tube from Drain T, Drain extension has QD that fits to this QD and fastens to extension tube with Barb.

Basically the same answer as above. Sethmo is quicker.

so is that screw looking part on top of this fitting actually a compression fitting?

Also, would my original drawing then be workable? i can leave just one qd fitting hanging on that drain line so its always acting like the plug, then when I want to drain I hook up the other qd end attached to a tube/bucket, and the water drains out?

Ahh, well in my loop, I just open the top plug in my reservoir and it drains just fine.

Roger. well planned. Most people don't plan to that depth.
