H100 vs Antec Kuhler 920 with low rpm fans

Thread Starter
I'm working on a build that will be entirely very quiet fans (running at 1000rpm at full load). Does anyone know if the Antec H100 would perform better than the Antec Kuhler 920 with these fans? Are there any other all-in-one water cooling units around now? I'm going to build this with an ivy bridge processor and recognize I will have very limited overclocking ability (if there is overclocking ability at all).

Also a quick unrelated question- has anyone seen a dBa sound test on the H100 or Antec Kuhler 920 pumps? There are many tests measuring the stock fans (which i would replace), but not the actual water pumps.

what chipset? the 920 doesn't support 2011.

I have a 920, and I love it. The fans that come with it are more than quiet on my custom settings, and while playing BF3, my max core temp is 44c, liquid temp never goes above 30c. Although, if you switch it to the "extreme" profile, the damn thing screams like a banshee.

I do it to scare my kids :LD

The performance of the H100 and the 920 are similar, so it then depends on where your going to put it and if you want a max of 4 fans or 2. The h100 can have 4 fans in Push/pull, the 920 only two smile.gif.

I would be more worried about the dreaded pump noise on the H100 if I was you.
Lately corsair's build quality has gone down hill and if your PSU supply slightly mover then 12v to the H100, it will cause this grating HD grinding noise in the pump.

I went thru hell with it, there's a massive thread over at corsair's forum for the issue.

It's not built by Corsair so Corsair's build quality going south has nothing to do with it... kookoo.gif

So, 920 vs. H100. Well H100 cools a bit better (as it has more surface area) than H80/K920 both with 2 fans, and a tad more better when you add another set of fans to the H100 (total of 4). The differences are just few centigrades though, and the 920 is smaller and has better tubes.

Am open to either chipset. I don't think 2011 offers all that much more that I need.

The 920 might be better for low rpm fans since radiator is larger, but talk of pump noise makes me think I should just go air.

There is a quick fix for the low chance of a noisy pump on the H100. I have read that thread a few times over now and it seems the noise comes from having a psu with a solid 12v or higher on the rail. The higher the rail V the more chance of noise. Basically if you have a good quality psu that is putting out what its supposed to put out or even a little more you have a better chance of experiencing the pump noise issue. This is fixed by simply hook the unit to a fan controller (not directly to the motherboard) and adjusting it to just under 12v operation. In all honesty, either the Antec 920 or the H100 are good units if you dont want to mess with building a water loop yourself.

I've got no pump noise smile.gif.

The onyl reason i know my computer is on when they're no load is because of my PSU's whine (still have to get off my lazy bumb and call SeaSonic). When I run a thread of prime, it's so quiet that I have to check the LED status light.

Yeah, I should note the Antec units do not have this issue at all from what I can tell. It seems to be any one of the Corsair water kits can have this. It does not mean the pump is bad or anything. It just means that its using whatever power the psu is giving it and running higher rpm's than it was meant to run at. Live I said, a fan controller can drop this volt input down to sat 11.9v and you won't hear it. Its also stated that only 2% of the units seem to be affected by this issue as well. That number could have gone up since the last numbers were posted but still its such a simple fix that it shouldn't sway you away from an great until, but you shouldn't even have to worry about any of this going with the Antec. So I say, flip a coin. thumb.gif

Bump! I'm considering upgrading to the 920 or H100 for the arrival of i7-3770k. I use two GT AP-14s in P/P on my Kuhler 620 now, and that's the very loudest I would go for a fan setup... Debating if I would see temperature improvements with either of these coolers using these fans (P/P for 920, push-upward for H100). I'm also trying to find alternatives in the low-noise, relatively strong static pressure segment, as I think the bearing on one my AP-14s is starting to go. (I found a new Kuhler 920 for $85 shipped wink.gif) The 620 would stay with my P67 rig when I put it on 24/7 F@H duty.

So not to thread-jack, but an answer to this question is relevant to my interests smile.gif

Akasa vipers/apaches are great (rad) fans: silent, pwm, good cfm/pressure.
Dunno how much of an upgrade 620->920 would be though, nothing too great I guess.
