Can anybody explain met his, all new mobos have 2 SATA ports for SSD caching... I was planning to go old fashion way, 2 SSD in RAID0 ( Crucial m4 64Gb) for OS and one ordinary HDD for storage, what you recommend me guys, any better opinions this days ?

I would just get a larger SSD, it's already so fast I've been told you won't realistically see or experience anything different besides minor things. 128GB Crucial M4 was on sale pretty cheap, the Plextor M3 is also good, as well as the Samsung 830 series. Grab whatever one is the cheapest biggrin.gif

Yep get a 128GB or larger SSD,Newegg had the Corsair F3 120gb SSD on sale yesterday for $149 shipped and a $30 MIR making it $119.I just missed it or i would have grabbed another one.I caught the same deal last time.Id like to run my system without and regular HD's at all

Yeah, but have you used a Crucial M4 on it's own? Or a Corsair Force GT? I had two Samsung 830's in RAID0 and I barely noticed a difference, so I put one in my Macbook. The speed on it's own is ridiculous. Hard drives, sure the real life difference is much better, SSD's I'm not so sure.

Same here i had two OCZ agility 60gbs in Raid 0.I ended up trading the two for a 120GB Agility and barely noticed the differnece.I ran Raid 0 for years and now that i have SSD's i dont need raid o any more..sonic.gif

Yes, I have to compare with, my HTPC have single OCZ SSD, difference is noticeable, and in big time...

Notice how I didn't say OCZ, or any other brand except Plextor, Corsair, Samsung, or newer Intel's.

Anyways, you were seeking advice and I gave you mine. I had two of the best SSD's and just wasn't worth the price premium to have a bit more speed rather than double the space.

Just a note, many people will agree realistically it's not worth the cost. And you lose TRIM, which also sucks.

You can tell the difference by doing a bench with as-ssd actually.

Sequential doubles as expected but since you aren't going to have a second raid to transfer files to and from, it's irrelevant.

4k reads stay virtually the same and that's your everyday usage stat.

4k-64thrd reads with many threads improve but most desktop users stay under 4 threads.

So unless being a benchmark king is your goal, raid is a waste.
