Upgrade help (:

Hey!!

It's my birthday today, I've been given £160 and I want to spend it!

My Sig rig is in need of improving however, I'm not too sure what route to take. I'm expecting to get comments on upgrading my CPU but I want to know what CPU is the best to get. Do I go for the option of getting a slightly cheaper CPU and an SSD to go with it or just get a more powerful processor?

If I got a CPU and the SSD I think I'd go for a 960-T and an M4. If I just go for the CPU I'd probably be looking at an 8120.

Opinions Guys?
Thanks!

Happy Birthday !

An SSD will primarily load programs faster if that's what you're looking for. A CPU upgrade will improve overall system performance. I don't know much about the 960-T but the FX CPUs and the 8120 in particular OC very nicely and scale well.

Question: what do you use you rig for primarily?

Scenario 1: your x2 unlocks to a x4. in that case, i would grab a Samsung 830 SSD (or an M4 if your partial to Crucial.)

Scenario 2: your x2 does not unlock to a x4. I would grab a 960T/8120. If it were me, i would take a 8120. (Unless you only game). The only issue would come if you overclock (either cpu) highly, i dont think your PSU will cut it with 2x 200watt GPU's and a overvolted 125watt CPU.

Thank you!

I use my computer mainly for gaming and occasionally BOINC so obviously I need good performance. I'm worried about using that processor as it's not completely compatible with my motherboard. So overall would an SSD and 960-T work better with my other components and give me better performance than an 8120 would?

there is nothing better for an upgrade then SSD, It brings you a whole new experience with your PC. Every game or program loads so fast that its almost unbelievable. I would go with SSD and 960T.

In that case yes. No doubt at all. The 960T and the highest capacity M4 you can get for your money!

I think you'll be VERY pleased with the performance upgrade.

Happy b-day!

then this..( i just did this..and it's on 4-core)Unlocked 960t/1090T gets around 77 gflops
