It's 3.0; gen3 x8 = gen2 x16

not like any GPUs suffer more than ~5% from gen2 x8 anyway

I love how people keep thinking this... this maybe true now but it will not be true for very long... anyone have bench results of z68 with crossfired 7970s? Vs x79 crossfired 7970s? ie x16/x16 vs x8/x8?

Kepler might push that and I would hope that the 7990 will push the x8 slot as well thumb.gif

Yes... Just like the Z68 boards can have a IB CPU stuffed into it.

Z68 = none native USB 3 and PCIE 3
Z77 = native USB 3 and PCIE 3

Really all it is is a refresh like I stated earlier. rolleyes.gif

I personally don't see any advantage in buying a Z77 board, I will buy a IB but with a Z68 mb, not only Z68 will be cheaper but its pretty much the same thing.

Agreed. I don't see me abandoning my X-Fi sound card ayntime soon.

And VGA is darned useful for old but darned good CRT monitors, or just a quick-and-dirty dual monitor solution.

Plus, i didn't see you complaining about that IDE connection at the bottom... rolleyes.gif

i know right....

VGA is good for backup, would have prefered just DVI alone but hey... they tossed a IDE in their too so I think that would be a better candidate to ditch than the VGA

If an i5-2500k can fit in a Z77 mobo, I might look into it smile.gif

Why would you complain about either?

PCI port adds more options. Its not as if they can put more than 4 PCIE lanes... and even then you cant run 4way SLI(and make it worth it) The limitations on the chip just isn't worth it. so putting in PCI slots allows for PCI devices... and there are a lot more PCI devices then just sound cards. think outside your standard builds wink.gif

IDE... again more options though I don't understand why it is on the board... 1st time in forever seeing it...lol
