i think a score, with a new IB cpu you will have two nice rigs thumb.gif

Yeah, I'll have my existing EVGA p55 sli board, which has my i3 530 in it currently, and I'll be getting the GA-P55-UD3 board with the 860. I think it'll be fun to see which will be able to push each CPU higher.

Yeah, for the bundle I was looking at it was a FX-8120, and Gigabyte 970A-UD3 board for $200 out the door. I was thinking it may be fun to play with for a couple months and then easy to sell to get my $$ back.

And if you've got a good clarkie they're a lot of fun, mine managed 5.06GHz for benching but it needed a lot of voltage to do it. (like 1.7V axesmiley.png)
I got 4.6GHz stable at 1.568V but my chip was pretty terrible voltage-wise.
Edit: And I traded to the Q6600 and water cooling setup I'm on now from an i3 540 so I understand why you did it.
I'd rather have a competitive but slightly less good chip than a poor example of a better chip. tongue.gif

Yeah, I'm not sure how good mine is, I bought it used off here like 6 months ago and have only done a quick and dirty 4.0ghz OC when I first got it, after that I put it back to stock and had my Mugen2 HSF on it passive cooling it for use in my HTPC box.

Haven't ran into a game yet that my (3.55ghz) Lynnfield can't handle, so I'm sure you won't notice the difference. And if you're using multi-threaded tasks, you may even beat the 2500k if you go for more like 4+ ghz.

Yeah, I know they consume less than an x58 system, but once you start OC'ing them over 4.0ghz they do consume ~300w.

I just fired up my i3 530, haven't gotten to overclocking yet, but it seems one of the core temps is getting reported too low, idle of 18C...that's not exactly possible considering my ambient is around 22-23C.

probably a bad sensor or a buggy temp monitor software.. i would be concerned just start pushing it thumb.gif

Nah you just have tiny Wizards in your machine doing their magic. thumb.gif

OP:

I suppose it was a good deal? Although another poster showed that it was a fair market price for it and it would cost you more to replace the 2500K (if bought new) So I have mixed feelings.

Yeah, I'm not particularly worried about it, more of an observation. I've rebooted and set CPU at 3.7. This EVGA board is kind of picky in that I have to gradually bump the BCLK otherwise it doesn't POST. Next boot up I'll try 4.0 ghz, I just wantd to see where I'm at with temps at my current voltage. I just ran IBT for like 10 min, and my max is 60C on one core, and 51C on the core that magically goes below ambients wink.gif

It was more of something to play with while I wait for Ivy Bridge. I've still got my p67 board, and will probably replace the 2500k with a 3700k or whatever the i7 variant will be called.

Well I just sold a HP dc7900 for $250, so it's more like I traded the HP for the new i7 parts, and I'll keep the money from my 2500k sale to go toward an IB down the road. Even better, IMO.

New parts should be here today, yey. I just wish USPS would hurry up, I have a feeling they won't be here until 4pm or so.

Wow, nice OC. I see it looks like you leave the turbo on, do you have to adjust any voltage settings for that?

What do you use for your 4.4 voltages? I'm in the process of OC'ing mine right now, I'm only at 194x21 right now though.
