Question about new build

Thread Starter
At the moment I am using an i7 950 @ 4.2 with 6gigs of ram and a GTX 580. I am wondering if you guys were running the same setup as I was, should I upgrade to Ivy Bridge or would it not be worth it?

It's probably hard to say until the product is released (now pushed back to June) but the Gen 3 chips should have a lower TDP and be a bit more OC'able due to the 22nm process, as compared to a Gen 2 chip. Ofc you have the Gen 1 chip, and you would almost certainly see a marked improvement in performance as well as heat and power consumption provided you move into the equivalent chip.

Good luck!! thumb.gif

It is not worth upgrading. Your i7 is pretty much at the same level as many CPUs of the current generation, such as the i5-2500k.
