Is there any way of doing this? I have a xbox 360 SLIM just chilling so might as well put it to use!

Not that I'm aware of, certainly no way without putting a different OS on there. Even if you did though the points per watt (PPW) would be terrible. Are you folding on your sig rig? If not that would be a much better choice and I could help you get it set up most effectively if you'd like.

Yer there is really no point on that Xbox. There is no current software and ppd would be terrible. You could sell it and buy a ps3. Or sell it and buy some new computer hardware. biggrin.gif That would be better than figuring out a way to fold of the 360.

No not anymore. They used to be amazing several years ago by taking advantage of their GPUs. However their hardware is not considered that good anymore. The electricity cost is not really worth running them in my opinion as they get just over 1k PPD

Yer but if you have one sitting around it's always good to get it folding but don't go out and buy it just for folding for the price you could probably get a good graphics or a good CPU. smile.gif

Have to balance the cost vs actual utility though. the power draw is 205 watts an hour (the conservative usage for the newer model not the 330watts of the old ps3) *24 hours / 1000 = 4.92 KWH per day *30 = 147.6 kwh a month

based on average cost in the US at .125$ per KWH you are looking at 18.45$ a month just for electricity. This is for 33000 points. I can get 390,000 a month from my 2500k and it costs about a third of the price.


If you can afford the cost or dont pay for the electricity it might be worth it for you.

They do have a 200w PSU but the new slims use less than 100 watts during gaming according to wiki.

I trust cnet more then wiki but they agreed with the 100w or so http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10318727-1.html. Although wikipedia does show that the consumption can go up to the 200s for older models. Even at half the usage we are still talking about 10$ a month to fold on the ps3. While i am all for the extra points I know what its like to have to replace a broken console mad.gif

PP$ is 3.5K vs 78K as far as electricity consumption

I don't know who to trust because I only looked up the one on wiki really quick, but either way no matter what the actual folding power consumption for a PS3 is we know that it's efficiency is an order of magnitude worse than any modern hardware.
