HD4870X2 temperatures

Thread Starter
My 4870X2 has these temperatures (FULL-IDLE):

GPU1 78° idle - 90° full

GPU2 45° idle - 75° full

MEM1 80° idle - 101° full

These temperatures are normal?
(Especially that of memories)
It 's the difference between normal gpu 1 and 2?

Re-seat your heatsink for GPU1

Edit: make sure you fasten the screws for the GPU heatsink( the 4 screw around each GPU) before any other screws.

Ya, if you've never changed the thermal paste it is probably really dry by now. I changed it on my 4850 just the other month and it just crusted off. I average temps around 78C max full load with stock HSF which I believe is fairly normal.

What are the fan speeds? The standard profile cools it rather poorly.
My XFX 4870x2 (with Arcting Cooling MX-2 applied) used to hover at around 45C on both GPUs while idle (30% fan speed). Under gaming load - slightly below 70C on one GPU, and slightly below 60 on the other (50% fan speed).
The discrepancy of the temps is due to the poor fan design (which was only fixed with the 6990). The blower cools one GPU decently, but the other one has air that's already hot blowing over it, thus the cooling efficiency is reduced. The slower the fan speed, the higher the temp difference, and vice-versa. You might want to reseat it, but the cause might actually be low fan RPM at auto. I recommend the following profiles: 30% idle / 50% gaming / 100% stress testing. If yours runs a bit hotter than mine did, increase the speeds accordingly.

These cards are actually designed to run hot, so yours shouldn't be in any danger. Still, considering the results I managed to achieve with mine, I'd say there's room for improvement on your side.
