Sorry for the back to back posting, but do we have a good idea what Win8 will cost retail, during the early period? I don't really need the pro version but I do need WMC. I bought a copy of Win 7 OE for $80 so I can do the $40 upgrade just in case, but if the retail version with WMC is going to be less than $120 I should return it. I'm sure the answer is going to be "nobody knows till the 26th of next month" thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Windows 8 has a very bright future, too bad I ran into some issues with BF3 and had to downgrade, if not I'll still be using it as my main OS. Everything improved vs 7, everything.

Apparently this is a known issue and there are no plans to fix it unfortunately.
By the way CSCoder4ever, your computer is pretty similar to mine. Just interesting.
Had the same problem with Crysis 2 as well! I thought it was just me. That has been the only game so far that has given me problems. I just keep reminding myself that it's not the finished product.

Please reply as I saved a new thread to just ask in here. Thanks!

You don't need to wait for it to come out, get the release preview. I made my first computer a few months ago using windows 8, and there where no unforeseen difficulties. You won't be able to use XP forever. Windows 8 will be pretty different from XP, but if you familiarize yourself with it you will have caught up to the modern standard and shouldn't have to learn anything new for another decade. That's why I chose it.

My Win8 install:

This is on my secondary computer (the AMD rig in my sig). I have been testing Windows 8 on my old laptop, and now my new one, since it came out last September, and have been quite pleased with it. It only took a bit of learning new keyboard shortcuts and slight workflow modifications, but I love it now! thumb.gif

I just installed the preview version for the first time.

There are few bugs now and there which I am sure will be ironed out in the release version or in a patch but overall when you get used to it, its a kick ass experience.

And i also do see that my frames are smoother in games. Not higher but smoother? Am i fooled with the hype or is gaming in Windows 8 feels a bit more smoother?

If yes than why?

Thank you.

Add me in please. I don't see the hate for it. Sure there are some issues mainly app navigation for me, but probably because I don't know how to use it correctly tongue.gif. But it is a very nice and fluid OS and has potential.

Uh, disable skydrive and use your paid service application? Is it really that hard to download dropbox to your desktop? I really don't get it. Do these guys expect Microsoft to provide them with competitors software out of the box?

I have a copy of Windows 8 Enterprise through work to play about with, if i install it on my 64gb SSD, will the programs installed on my 1tb HDD still work or will they all need reinstalling too? frown.gif I dont fancy reinstalling every game again!

I had a quick go on Windows 8 on a different HDD and bootup times were much faster even without it being SSD. Cant have all 3 drives as i only have 2 6gb/s SATA connectors on my motherboard, the rest are 3.
