I'm guessing the "Home Premium" version. I haven't looked in to the versioning they will be using for Windows 8, just that they have cut WMC from the Enterprise version. Not sure if they will keep it in the Pro version.

The way I understand it is that you must have a valid copy of XP, Vista, or 7 INSTALLED to be able to use the $40 upgrade option. It really shouldn't be too big of a deal, just do a fresh install of you Vista copy, then immediately do a fresh install of Windows 8. I can't imagine it would take more than an extra 5-10 minutes.

I will be joining this club Friday, hopefully, as long as Microsoft's servers will let me download in a reasonable time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8_editions There is a chart here that is very useful. It shows what will and will not be available with each version.

Windows 8
Windows 8 is the basic edition of Windows for the x86 and x86-64 architectures. This edition contains features aimed at the home market segment and provides all of the basic new Windows 8 features including the Start screen with semantic zoom, live tiles, Windows Store, Internet Explorer 10, connected standby, Microsoft account integration, the Windows desktop and more.

Windows 8 Pro
Windows 8 Pro succeeds Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate[2][3] and is targeted towards enthusiasts and business users; it includes all the features of Windows 8. Additional features include operating as a Remote Desktop server, the ability to participate in a Windows Server domain, Encrypting File System, Hyper-V, and Virtual Hard Disk Booting, Group Policy as well as BitLocker and BitLocker To Go. Windows Media Center functionality will be available only for Windows 8 Pro as a free "add-on."[4]

Windows 8 Enterprise
Windows 8 Enterprise provides all the features in Windows 8 Pro (except the ability to install the Windows Media Center add-on), with additional features to assist with IT organization (see table below).[2] This edition is available to Software Assurance customers, as well as MSDN and Technet Professional subscribers, and was released on August 16, 2012.[5]

So Pro looks like the version for me.

I ordered my copy of Windows 8 64 bit system builder for my new pc yesterday. Amazon says I'll have it on the 30th.

Unfortunately while in the process of building my new pc (in sig) my old one died so now all I have is my chromebook.

Things like this doesn't make me choose windows 8 FOR NOW:

Windows 8 Bench 26/10 release

I would like that it performed better than 7 but seems not much...
