just found this thread I don't understand what all the hate is about for windows 8 from people? I love it! (came from windows 7 ultimate) it seems faster with less errors. I installed stardock start 8 and modernmix (so now I have a start menu and can run apps windowed) it solved my only issues and it was well worth the $5 lol. so after SP 1 this OS should be the best yet from microsoft. I'm happy

One question though.....

Any one found any thing for displaying things like gadgets used to be in windows 7?

I used to run core temp to see the temps and cpu usage and ram etc. ?

also ran drive and network data display gadgets. my only complaint is that i have yet to find a similar app or something to get the running in the background info I used to like to have. if anyone knows a way to get these things back or similar new apps/ features then please let me know I've tried googling it for a while but with no luck

I use Open Hardware Monitor, the version I use is 0.5.1. Be aware though, if you use AS SSD while Open Hardware Monitor is running it may prevent registering a read access time.

Sorry guys, out for good this time, so please take me off the list. Lingering stability problems made things tough, no Win8 compatible driver for my Marvell sata controller tore it. Good luck to all, I really do hope Windows 8 takes off, it is a great OS.

Hello guys!

I just recently bought a Windows 8 Pro OEM. So far so good! I just got this one issue though and hope you can help me.

I have an external HDD Seagate 500GB usb2.0 only connected at the back of my motherboard Asus 990 FX. Now what I am doing is I'm just copying my files from external Seagate HDD to my Western Digital 3.0 TB Green. The size of the file is 450GB. The transfer rate that I am only getting during that time was 24-25MB/s which I think is ridiculously slow.

On my windows 7 previously, I know that the speed is not like that. I tried to transfer some files to my intel 520 SSD and to my other HDD western digital 1TB black and the speed is still the same.

Do you know how to fix this? I even tried to use another flash drive and another external HDD WD both usb2.0 only and speed is really slow. Any inputs guys? HELP!

Have you installed motherboard drivers and gotten windows fully updated yet?

yeah all fully updated! windows updates and motherboard all up to date!

is it just normal or just a user problem? lol biggrin.gif
post #899 of 1104
I was copying something to external drive yesterday and I was under impression that 25MB/s is normal speed for USB 2.0. Theoretically USB 2.0 has speed of 480Mb/s which comes out as 60MB/s but since you can't get full speed out of USB 2.0 because of how protocol works.

It's normal to get roughly that speed on USB2.0. I rarely get speeds of 35 MiB/s read on USB2.0 If you want a higher speed, you'll have to go for USB3.0 which reads at roughly 100MiB/s (104.86MB/s) on a normal HDD.
