[Official] Windows 8 Fan Club - Page 93

Hello, I have been using Win8, on and off, since early Alpha but did not replace W7 until official release. Before that I installed it on a lone separate HDD because it kept screwing my main system. After a while used W7 and W8 in dual boot and now for some month it's the only system on the main and another computer. Both are the Pro versions. Always gives me a laugh when hear from people that did not even seen it in action that it's ugly and a throwback to W 3.11 or something like that.
Still amazed how many drivers for some obsolete HW was found automatically and installed without me even noticing. There's only one piece of HW I was not able to install driver for and that's an Alcatel 3G modem and it's driving me crazy. One wrong driver it kept installing and that's for a Kworld TV card but Win7 x64 drivers work, so even that ended OK.
Hope nobody takes it wrong if I keep compering W8 with W7 because I find it (apart from Modern UI) so familiar. As per usual I customized it to suit my long established habits but this time I have the Modern UI to play with. Being where I am I do not have chance to by any Metro apps but no big loss as I have not seen many that I can not replace with some other aftermarket ones. Also found a few registry hacks that make it easier to activate than to have to go to Charms Bar all the time. So that objection from W8 naysayers is out. Don't have any device with touch screen yet but mouse functions just fine for anything necessary to operate.
So, am I in the club or what ?

Been running Windows 8 since December on my Lenovo Ultrabook and it has been very good. Used it again on my newest build from last month. Highly stable. I miss a couple of the old features and installing the Classic Shell filled the void. http://www.classicshell.net/

Aside from that, everything else has been tip top. Just adjustments on knowing where to go to get what you want.

When I got my new Lenovo Y500 notebook, I popped out the SSD from my old Asus with Win8 installed on it and dropped it into the Lenovo. I rebooted and it said something like "Preparing devices" (can't remember exactly what the wording was) and everything worked immediately. I checked Device Manager and it even removed most of the old Asus drivers automatically. Pretty surprising since I was expecting to have to reinstall Windows.

Been using Windows 8 on my laptop for quite a while now, and am planning to get Windows 8 for any new desktops I get.

Add me to the list please!

I've blocked out my PID by the way, if that's ok.
