Getting sounds from Windows, not from YouTube

Well I just built a brand new computer for a friend, and it's supposed to be delivered for tomorrow, except I'm having weird problems with the sound. I plugged my iPod headphones into that back of the motherboard and could hear sounds from Windows just fine (StickyKeys, etc..). However, when I went to Youtube to try and watch some 1080p videos, I couldn't get any sound. It was really weird. So I entered another search term into the search bar, and found a different song, unplugged and plugged the headphones back in the motherboard. What do you know, the sound works! At that point I said, okay that's weird, let's try it again. So I unplugged the headphones once more and plugged them back in, and resumed playing the same music video, and for some reason there was no sound. I reloaded that SAME webpage afterwards, and still no sound. I was dumbfounded, so I closed Internet Explorer and tried prompting some WindowsOS noises, I could hear those fine. I went into the RealTek audio configuration as well and tested the headphones, I could hear that fine.

I'm really confused on what could be causing this problem, any ideas?

The motherboard is an ASRock H61M/U3S3, running an Intel Core i3-2120. Other specs can be provided at request.

Thanks for the help!

Hmm.....is your flash player up to date? You get picture, but no sound on you tube only?

Try opening your windows volume control (full window) and browse through all of the listed devices. Perhaps your browser is either muted or set at a low volume.

Also you said a different video worked. You could try to re-install Flash (a newer version) and do a restart.

Another thing (less likely), perhaps your headphones are old and the plug is damaged, so sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

Yeah it's up to date, I just installed it! And yes, only sound, no video.

Alright I'll try opening up windows volume control before I crash tonight. And they are pretty new headphones, got them about a month ago, SkullCandy I think. They work fine with my iPod. I think I'm going to try and restart the system when my game download is done, I feel like that may help alot. I had alot of updates attempt to install at once so that could be the problem. I'll come back with my results.
