What you will need to do is download the 12.1 Windows 7 driver because I'm pretty sure the Windows 8 Consumer Preview driver doesn't have the USB and SATA components.
- Install Windows 7 full 12.1 package
- Restart
- Install Windows 7 8-series south bridge driver
- Restart
- Install AMD AHCI driver
- Restart
- Install Windows 8 Consumer Preview Driver
- Restart
If you don;t install the Windows 8 Consumer Preview Driver, for some reason the 12.1 driver thinks you have XGP (an AMD proprietary external GPU solution) and won't let you play with Eyefinity or GPU overclocking from in the Vision Control Center. So I'm currently running my GPU stock settings with no Eyefinity.
For me though, the Windows 8 Consumer Preview driver on my 6870 would constantly get "Your display driver stopped working" and would only fold at 80% GPU usage. So that's why I just stuck with the Windows 7 driver.

My laptop runs Intel tongue.gif

Anywho, got it working...wOOt. I was using a USB 3.0 drive, which was causing the hangs in windows explorer. Copied the stuff to a USB 2.0 and things clicked.
The only thing now is that my horizontal scroll on my laptop trackpad is unresponive in app mode... which is kind of not cool seeing as app mode is a heavily horizontal experience. I've already installed the latest Synaptics driver but no dice.

true statement

Windows 7 was windows vista with better coding, but Windows 8 is a completely new internet that was built on new code.

ok, i copied all my pics and music etc to my external 250gb... (just about filled it)

installed win8 again... this time i went into the install options, and deleted the partition on my second HD and proceeded to install there

quick install, went smooth.
started copying my images back in... when i discovered that about 80% were corrupted!!! really depressing... corrupted on the external.
i have backups of most of them, but a year and a half (2009-2010) are still bad. suuuucks!

anyway, reloaded the 2011 images and some music. etc..

this time, (this is the second time i installed it) the "people" tile decided to work properly, and now hooks into facebook. pretty cool
it crashes a lot though....

otherwise, its running nice and smooth....
havent installed anything else yet.

My big issue at the moment is that there is no Tile that shows the time!??? that seems really dumb.
