Switch 810 WC questions

Thread Starter
So I bought the NZXT Switch 810 (black) with watercooling in mind. I installed my rig in it yesterday (I switched from Antec 900, good case, but NOTHING compared to the 810).

My rig:
i7 920
6GB RAM
Asus P6T
Galaxy GTX 570 (non-reference frown.gif)
Antec 750W semi-modular
64GB SSD, 1TB HDD

I have ran the CPU stable at 4GHz with the Antec 920 kuhler (right now stable at 3.8 with a Noctua U12 or smth). I think I can go higher.
I would like to water cool the graphics card as well, but since it is non stock I don't think there are any blocks for it, besides just bare GPU blocks. I'm thinking of ebaying this 570 and buying a reference card, but budget might not allow it.

I have since making this thread received:
- Coolgate 420mm radiator
- 3 YL 1000rpm 140mm blue led case fans
- 3 YL 1450rpm 140mm case fans
- 6 compression fittings
- swiftech mcp655
- 10ft uv blue primochill tubing
- xspc raystorm
- non-fancy 6 fan controller

Still waiting on:
- frozenq 250mm liquid fusion v reservoir

Problems solved:
- rad would not fit at all, had to remove upper bay for dvdrom, solved easily.

Problems unsolved:
- Radiator holes are not lined up. I'm going to have to drill some holes, or just mount the radiator with the center 4 holes, and not have any pull fans. Not preferred.
- One rad outlet is hitting the PS/2 ports on the top of the mobo. I'm going to need an angled compression fitting. Not happy about this. frown.gif
- Need a damn reservoir!

Subbed for sure thumb.gif

You and my friend have this same strange idea that because a 420 fits, it has to be a 420, lol. I would just use the 360 and the fans are more easily acquired because of their normal size (compared to 140MM).

Get some Yate Loons and a fan controller, you'll save a ton of money and have high performance/cost ratio thumb.gif

Well, if all goes to plan (and it rarely does) I would like to fill this case up with as much cooling potential as possible, and thus I prefer a 420 over a 360.
On a side note, how do fan controllers work? Do they just cut the voltage? I remember back 10 years ago I soldered some stuff and added a switch so I could switch fans between 5v, 7v and 12v.

Alright, so I've looked around some and this is what I have come up with so far:

1 x XSPC Raystorm CPU Waterblock - Intel ($49.99)
1 x Swiftech MCP655™ Series 12 VDC Water Pumps - With Speed Control ($76.95)
1 x Black Ice SR1 Low Air Flow Optimized - 420 Radiator - Black ($150.95)
3 x Yate Loon 140mm x 25mm Fan - Low Speed (D14SL-12) ($29.97)
3 x Yate Loon 140mm x 25mm Blue LED Fan (D14SL-124B) ($32.97)
1 x FrozenQ PC Mods 250mm Liquid Fusion V Series "2nd Generation" Reservoir - UV Cathode - UV Blue Helix ($104.99)
1 x PrimoChill PrimoFlex PRO LRT Tubing 7/16" ID 5/8" OD with 3/32" Wall - 10ft Retail Pack - UV Blue (PFLEXP10-758-B) ($22.95)
6 x Bitspower Premium G1/4" Black Matte High Flow 7/16" ID (5/8" OD) Compression Fitting ($47.70)

Total: $516.47

As expected, I went over budget. But I have a few questions. I feel like the radiator is quite expensive, and I was looking at the Aquacomputer airplex Revolution 420/360 G1/4. That one is only $96.09, so obviously a lot cheaper. Does anyone have any experience with that radiator? There isn't much information about it.
Another thing is that obviously I will hang the 420 rad on top, and with the Yate Loon fans being sleeve bearing, is it really that bad to be mounted horizontally? I've read that only ball bearing is able to be mounted like that. 1000rpm seems like quite a low speed. My NZXT case fans are 1300rpm. Are 1000rpm fans enough to cool/OC this cpu (and in the future a graphics card)? Finding the perfect noise/cost/performance ratio is hard! frown.gif

I think this: EX360-DDC XSPC Dazmod Raystorm Complete kit is what I am going to order after I get my Switch 810. It would probably yield similar results to the parts you listed, but for less, I know it's not really what you're looking for, but something to consider if you wanted to stay on budget.

I heard that pump wasn't the greatest. Might want to try the RX360 kit, since it comes with a D5 pump. I could also save a lot by not going for that reservoir, but it's just so damn sexy smile.gif.
I was actually looking at the XSPC RX360 Extreme kit, but I figured I wanted to build the set myself, and give me some more options.

After reading a review the Coolgate Triple 140mm (CG420) radiator is also very good, and it's much cheaper than the SR1, and performs better too.

Also, this thread needs more replies smile.gif

Ordered! biggrin.gif
Switched out the Black Ice for a Coolgate Triple 140. Ordered the custom FrozenQ Liquid V reservoir from the manufacturer himself so that will probably be the longest wait frown.gif. Hopefully stuff is here in 7 days, after my finals...

For the rad. Coolgate 360 got the win thumb.gif

The FrozenQ res's usually take 10-14 days to build...

Yeah, the radiator has good reviews. Just hope it fits. Should get here on Friday, which is perfect because that's the last day of my finals! Hopefully will get the reservoir earlier than expected too, would like to have my week off to work on this build.
