Which 6950 out of these should i buy

Thread Starter
I plan on unlocking and overclock 2 of these in crossfire

Which of these will get me the best temps... and which would you recommend?

2 Diamond 6950's with Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme PLUS II on both (might void warranty but idk about Diamond's Warranty.) Price : $690

2 Twin Frozr III 6950's (doesn't have a dual bios switch and a lot of them don't get 1536 and worried on temps) Price: 640

2 Direct Cu Asus 6950's ( Has Dual Bios and has good rep for unlocking but not sure on temps and noise on the card.) Price: $580

These are the only 6950's i can seem to find in stock online.

My motherboard is the ASUS P8P67 WS REVOLUTION which will handle any of these in crossfire.

We have a guide here on OCN for unlocking and overclocking TF3 6950s: http://www.overclock.net/t/1070678/unlock-and-oc-that-6950-tf3-twin-frozr-iii-the-definitive-guide

Seems pretty straightforward. Dunno how reliable Diamond is and I know that ASUS' DirectCU cooling takes up a LOT of room which could cause issues when you have two or more cards.

My TF3 6950 (that will NOT unlock by the way) gets max load temps while OC'd to 910/1460 (Corevolt at 1129) of 61-63c. This was after a remount of the heatsink with AS5.

Can't speak of the other two card as I have no experience with them.

I have a Club3D HD6950 CoolStream 2GB GDDR5 and it is able to unlock with shader unlock only, but it is not able to remain stable.

Well you can always PLAN to unlock them ... but keep in mind doesn't always mean they WILL ... and some people buy TWO, only to have 1 unlock but not the other doh.gif ... it's so hit and miss on all but the older REF and Sapphire TOXIC 6950 which has about an 85-90% success rate. The MSI TF3 PE/OC card would have the next best chance, then the ASUS DCU2 card second, and lastly the Diamond card, ALL of these card will run fairly COOL and QUIET with the dual fan coolers.

Anyways of the ones you mentioned and at those price points thinking.gif, I wouldn't worry about TEMPS, all of these cards will run cool enough NOT to be an issue ... I'd rank them in this order ...

1st = 2 Asus DirectCUII 6950's (Dual Bios / VGA profile combo switch) Price: $580
2nd = 2 MSI Twin Frozr III 6950's (the 2GB DOES have a dual bios / FAN profile combo switch) Price: $640
make sure 2GB PE/OC edition
3rd = 2 Diamond 6950's w/ Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme PLUS II  Price : $690

Good Luck thumb.gif
