Finally hit a stable 4.0 Phenom II x4 955

Thread Starter
Well it took me awhile but i finally hit a stable 4.0Ghz Core clock with a 2400 NB with my Phenom II x4 955. For these settings i only ran prime for 30 minutes because the previous OC settings passed all the stress tests i gave it but it would crash during games. So this time i just played games and sure enough it works biggrin.gif

Stock Settings
Core- 3.2
NB- 2000
Core Voltage- 1.4v
NB Voltage- 1.1v
Max Load Temp- 56C

Overclocked Settings
Core- 4.0
NB- 2400
Core Voltage- 1.45v
NB Voltage- 1.15v
Max Load Temp- 59C

Super Pi 1M time: 17.238s

Nice result!!! But you will want to watch out for the motherboard's VRMs (which should be cooled in any case, but there are more issues...) as it has been known for some long-term possible degradation problems due to the much lower quality 3-transistor design with low amperage capacity.  I normally do not recommend pushing 125W TDP processors on this board.

Ya this is the limit for what ill do on my mobo. I dont think Ill see any degradation. But i was aiming for 4.0 and i got there biggrin.gif

Max Load temp was 59C. Max TDP for Phenom II is 62C, so watch out for that. The Vcore looks good. Also make sure other parts of your mobo aren't frying in there. When stress testing, open up your computer side panel and touch the NB. It could damage your mobo if it gets too hot. thumb.gif

What stress tests were you running that passed when your machine was failing in games?

Be sure everything is at least cooled (i.e. airflow to VRMs and if not you might wish to compromise with heatsinks) or you are REALLY in danger
