Help me with my new SSD!

Thread Starter
I recently bought a Corsair Force GT 120gb. I have no clue what to do because it didn't come with instructions. I am new to this upgrade and I want to find out how to transfer Windows 7 and some games over from my HDD to my new SSD. All the files and applications I have add up to about 80gb on my hard drive

I was wondering if I could replace my traditional hard drive with my 120gb SSD? and how should I do that?
Any suggestions?

For your purposes, the SSD installation will be no different from an HDD installation, however, you want to make sure you set your sata configuration in BIOS to ACHI. Also, check out Sean's Windows 7 installation and optimization guide.

You may find, though, that the Corsair Force GT doesn't like being used as a boot drive because it has a SandForce controller. Some people have found that the SF controllers perform very poorly, possibly leading to BSOD's. YMMV and a firmware update should hopefully fix that one day but a month ago, that was the case when I was researching.

The best way to do this would be to unplug your existing hard drive and install windows and all your apps and games to the SSD. after that, you can re-attach the hard drive, but make sure you set the SSD to be the default "HDD" boot device, or you might accidentally boot back into your HDD. then, backup any important stuff from the old hard drive and format it.
