The OP only needs 60 FPS with whatever graphical settings he can use to obtain that and he could even go with lower FPS if he feels it works fine for him. so no, he does not need a monitor above 60hz since most gamers are totally happy with 60fps, the only reason to go for a 120hz monitor is if you had the money and there is no reason not to gain those extra fps.

Again since OP is not just asking about BattleField 3 and is asking about other first person shooters his suggestion about over 60FPS is a good suggestion.

Playing CoD, CS, Quake you're at a significant disadvantage playing at 60FPS.

CS 1.6 requires you to play at 101 FPS for optimal registration, as well as running at a resolution below 1024x768. Source is different, pre-orange box was 101FPS any resolution, current state of source is 67FPS any resolution.

Quake and CoD, both need to be running at 125FPS. Your guns fire quicker, jump higher, and move faster.

Ratjack, my credentials are that I've been whoopin ass since QW. Not to brag, but I can't stand the naysayers that have never played an arcade shooter at high framerates with a tournament to win.

Eye's work only for the brain and when you notice one evening that your favorite gun is not getting bullets out fast enough to take out your fourth target after a triple kill, you will understand 120Hz (or at least 85 if your machine struggles).

And when you start wallbanging down a path of footsteps you will know the magic of Dolby Digital headphones.

As for my tone while having a new account, I did apologize. But I only want go as far here as the factual info I can collect is valid, or as the info I share is validated. tongue.gif

Anyways, CoD is client side FPS capped at 90 for MW2 only. MW3 allows 125 on dedicated servers. Black Ops as well allows 125.

You're also at a even bigger advantage in Quake3 based engine games (CoD/Quake) if you're able to hold a steady 333fps. Again another "exploit" so to say that is hard coded into the game.

Never said KDR was the most important stat, but it does say quite a bit about a players efficiency. You shouldn't read into others' posts so much. Also, score per minute doesn't gauge a player very well either. Especially if you're playing on very large maps like firestorm where there is infrequent killing compared to infantry style maps where it is easy to get a high score per minute from team actions.

Maps like Firestorm are not very large though if you're actually looking at from point to point. You're looking at about 15 seconds from point to point, especially if you're sprint jumping.

A player who is constantly fragging and capturing points should be over 550 SPM. The way the points were designed in this game, you can literally run around capturing flags only and not fire a single bullet and still end up with around 450-500 SPM. I did it on two maps, firestorm and Caspian border (Again not a big map) which has even closer points.

Look at my last few games (reports don't show up unfortunately as they're too old) but I only play the larger maps. If I weren't sitting in a server practicing/scrimming with my team during the Alienware Tournament my SPM and KDR would be even higher.

Because gaming gear is not the same thing as skill. On top of that, surround sound headphones are a joke.
OP is asking for tips on play style, not hardware upgrades and pro settings.

Honestly, I would say you need to keep moving around, sitting in one spot ins't going to net a huge amount of kills. Assume that there is an enemy around every corner.

Practice your aim. If you can't full auto spray 3-4 people to death on a regular server with one mag with an assault rifle from about 10-20m then that could be a problem if you want better than a 1kdr. Learning the spray patterns of every weapon helps tremendously. Oh and if you are reloading and someone starts shooting at you try to jump around in circles, it usually causes them to miss a decent amount of shots.

Doing these I have about a 2.7kdr, if that is what you are going after.

Thats basically what I do. If I had an hdd to store some video on I would upload some, but sadly I don't.
