Fallout 3 anti aliasing

Okay.. So when you turn off Anti aliasing, everything gets.. "fizzy" if you know what I mean by this, the rest should make sense.

Regardless of whether I turn on AA+ related settings to max in CCC, or tick "use application settings" and use fallout graphics settings I'm getting a fizzy lod/bushes ~ grass.

What gives. My settings are cranked, system can handle it. Put a radeon 4650 in to see if it would do the same, but no it was clear as day no fizzy but only 5-8 fps vs. 48-55 with my hd4850 1gb ati, stock clocks 625mhz\1008mhz 800 shader cores, but things are fizzy as if aa is on 2x not 8x.. In ccc adaptive aa on or off makes no difference... Is it my card going? Or is this normal?

i hate to sound like a broken record, but have you tried different drivers?

Try fully uninstalling your current drivers, turn off your pc, then reinstalling new ones or a previous version.

EDIT: also might be worth trying a fresh install of fallout 3. (back up you save games before hand though wink.gif )

First thing's first ... reset your CCC , everything to defaults. Make changes to IQ only in the game itself. Does that fix the problem?

Also, did you mean to say in your first line of the OP: "when I turn AA ON", rather than Off, like you did?

And what does 'fizzy' look like?

Try adaptive aa in the AMD control panel. Sounds like you want transparency anti-aliasing. SMAA would also do the trick.

Fizzy looks like aa settings are completely off. Except when I do turn everything off it makes every mesh look this way ie, the bushes + trees + lod anything + bump map meshes are horrid.
With ccc settings @ default using only 2x looks the same as 8x. antriscopic off.
Antriscopic on things get better but only up to 8x then there is no notable difference.

Turning the fo3 aa/as off and using only ccc settings; ie adaptive, aa/edge detect @24x, as@16x etc.
Still no improvement and fps @ 30-40.

Oblivion looked the same but worse, like aa is taking zero effect.

Retired the driver, rolled back to an old version 8.9 I think? No luck.

Now after swapping back to the 4650 I get zero mesh loading. As in smooth flat colors looks like I judy turned off detail all together. But the water was at full spec. ***. So I swapped back to the 4850, clean installed the drivers. Clean install of fallout. Same issue...

I have now tried every possible combination of settings. Literally. Two days of tweaking. even ini file tweaks. No difference. I'm nearly at my last straw. About to just jump ahead, buy my new gpu for the intel rig I'm saving for piece by piece, and use the 4850 for target practice.
