Xfx 4550

I upgraded from my pci 8400 gs to an xfx 4550. It works good but what are its limits? I'm using the most current drivers.

Is there any oc-ability? Xfire-able??

Just wandering what it could do or be made to do.

Depends. Which cooler does your card have, the passive or with the fan? If you have the passive cooler, there is a chance for OCing with a little modding - attaching a 80mm or 92mm fan to it with zipties (or whatever). The active cooler (the one with the fan) is very crappy. The XFX's version I mean. Here are comparissons:

XFX Passive (better for OC after mod):

XFX Active (worse for OC):

A good Active cooler:

Notice how much larger the heatsink is?

Yea I see..thanks man.

I've got the second one. Its got a fan. My 8400's fan dies and was getting well above 80c so I put in my old 6200TC and then got this. I've got many fans, cpu fans, 80mm fans..can I do anything with them??

What games are playable, with no lag on a 19 inch crt monitor?? I've got diablo, warcraft, a lot of pop cap games..a plane racing game(forgot the name), but would really like to play BF3 or MW3.

Specs:
Msi K8N neo4
3500+.had a trade worked out for a 4600+ and a DFI board but I haven't heard from the guy so idk what's up..lol
2 gigs ram..3 if need be.
XFX 4550
Running windows 7 x64

Any help would be awesome.

Side note: its old tech, s939, but I like it and can't afford to upgrade my whole system right now.

BF3 and even MW3 will be difficult to run, if at all. Warcraft III should run just fine, though World of Warcraft should take a bit more than your system can dish out frown.gif

Diablo, I think even the Diablo 3 beta should run fine.

You may be able to play it on low @1280x1024 or something in those lines, however I can't guarantee. The 4550 is 5 year old tech (has 80 shader cores, 8 TMUs and 4 ROUs! Compared to 800/40/16 for 4850 which is still considered lowish for BF3, and 192(Nv shaders, roughly = 650 AMD shaders)/32/24 for my 550, which barely manages to max it), and was in the low mid-range even then. BF3 is a very demanding game.
Reference:
@1440x900
my GTX 550Ti plays it on Ultra, no AA, 4x AF, no motion blur, with 40 FPS average.
my brother's 8800GT plays it on Medium, no AA, no AF, with 35-40 FPS average.

Not to mention the game is hard on the CPU and the 3500+ is a bit on the low-side compared to anything that the game was built for (Phenom tri- and quads, C2Q, i3-i5s)

Not to mention playing on low 1024x768 defeats the whole feeling of the game...

Sorry frown.gif

I've always been slow to upgrade when it comes to computer tech, but I actually enjoy my s939 setup. I do agree the 4550 isn't the best but it does what I need..I can play the games I like, warcraft, diablo and skydrift, along with watching 1080p. I've got the fan locked in @ 100% in the ati control panel, so I hope that's ok..lol

Ill be getting a delidded opty 170 here b4 to long so ill get a little boost..lol
