[TV] Windows 8 vs. iPad: feature by feature - Page 3

Impressive, but let's see how convenient and intuitive W8 really is when using the traditional Aero interface using touch input. I can easily circumvent this by using a mouse, but then that diminishes the tablet's portability.

And as far as I'm concerned, Android's tablet UI isn't a copycat of iOS as you blatantly state. It actually somewhat emulates the traditional desktop interface with its bottombar, for example. And with OnLive Desktop, I don't need a full W8 OS on a tablet anymore as my Prime can avail of a Windows desktop when I need it.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Side-by-side apps looks awesome! This is really shaping up to be something that could be used more effectively in an office environment.

I am glad you put "somewhat" in that sentence. Granted, I think you should have said, "I was not open minded..."

The Metro UI is okay, it definitely needs a lot of work which I'm sure they'll do, but the fact is it's still the standard Windows desktop behind it and it's not ideal for a touch screen slate. It's definitely no competition to iOS, even Android is simpler to use and as far as I'm concerned, far more intuitive and usable. That just looks like one big mess, right now at least.
Not sure if I like how easily you can get to the standard Windows desktop but having that functionality is pretty awesome. I think it is pretty short sighted to think that this wont be any competition to iOS. Having the Windows name attached to this is enough to bring competition. However, Microsoft needs to take a few pages from Apple on how to properly market their products or as you stated, this will be no competition to iOS.

Definitively wasn't the best comparison but it was still nice to see how each tablet handled the same functions.

Meh, I'd just buy a laptop if I wanted that.

@ the guy talking about office on a tablet:

If your getting a tablet of any kind with expectations that its going to be easy to do office stuff, then your just doing it wrong.

That said, With a win8 tablet you could plug in a mouse and keyboard to do office stuff if you wanted to. Ipad doesnt even have a usb port.

That's BS.

MS did a great job getting involved in the tablet and smart phone markets.

A lot of people I know, at school, in my family, etc. Can't wait to use the new Nokia Lumia and a Windows 8 tablet.

I don't see how a desktop interface is a set back? It's a major selling point, having a full Windows OS behind a user-oriented tablet interface. I am far more inclined to consider one knowing that it has a fully functioning OS behind it. It's like an iPad with OS X, had Apple done that I would have bought one ages ago.

I'm impressed. If you can install nearly any Windows program on these I think they'll take off VERY well.

He is an Apple user...look at the avatar...what did you expect from an Apple user but to hold/do something wrong, and we all know Apple is saving the usb for the iPad4, its innovation silly. Steelbom lets be completely honest with ourselves and admit you didn't come into this with an open mind, you came into it with a thought of iOS is superior, now lets see how much more superior it is in each aspect. If you came into it open-minded you would've seen that W8 can put some competition in the market when it comes out just like the WPs can.
