And as far as I'm concerned, Android's tablet UI isn't a copycat of iOS as you blatantly state. It actually somewhat emulates the traditional desktop interface with its bottombar, for example. And with OnLive Desktop, I don't need a full W8 OS on a tablet anymore as my Prime can avail of a Windows desktop when I need it. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

You don't even need OnLive. I use VNC and remote into my Linux system at home. I have DynDNS with a domain I bought and have DynDNS running on my router. Also, if you guys are running Windows, RDP would work too. This is on an Android tablet. smile.gif

It's cool, but I found it funny the W8 tablet was plugged into an external power source the whole time. I'm pretty happy with my ipad, I'm not really desperate for more complexity. 90% of the time I'm just reading a book or surfing the web. Start watching baseball on it again soon. No frantic multitasking for me.

Maybe because it's a pre production unit that is set for demo purposes only?

Oh, nvm, you use an ipad

Well, Microsoft products are functional and generally work quite well. But they've never had that same level of "coolness" that Apple has. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't really care less about the cool factor, but to about 90% of the population image and cool-factor is what gets attention.

Not everyone with an apple product is some huge fanboi. Just saying this is clearly more ideal for a different kind of use and I'm not sure how much direct competition there will be. Microsoft will have a tough time converting anybody, just look at the Zune, and yes, I have a ZuneHD. They like to jump in established markets a little late to get too many new adopters. They will mostly be trying to convince people that already have tablets that theirs is better. I'm more limited by bandwidth when I'm not on WiFi than I am by what my tablet can do.

Do want... A lot..
^ I have an iPhone 4 and iPod, I purchased them long before all this suing crap started happening, back when Apple was somewhat respectable.
The only reason I bought the phone at the time is because the touch screen and fluidity was among the best and I didn't like any of the Android phones at the time. Every time I pick up an Apple product now I cringe a little. That's all soon to change. thumb.gif

If this is launched at a respectable price I'll certainty pick it up when I start college. biggrin.gif

I really like the concept and the multitasking ability. However it looks like they need to do some work on the implementation, those menus on the sides etc looked a bit odd and the entire system did not look/feel super intuitive to me. But watching a video is much different than having the product to actually play with.

This system has potential as long as they do not botch the UI. Really liked responsiveness of browser, multitasking and USB support.

iPad and iPad2 owners would still go out and purchase an iPad3, so why can't Windows jump in late if their product is better and take that customer instead. I don't think you can compare the Zune to a W8 tablet other than that both are "late to the game". They are doing the same with the phone market that they are doing with the tablet market and I think they stand a good chance in both with some good products coming out. People with an iPod saw no need to upgrade when they were getting the same storage size so why change to a Zune 64gb when I have an iPod 64gb. With phones, people are constantly upgrading those things and looking for the next best thing, this is where Windows stands a chance since they can grab anyone who is looking to get into the smartphone world or looking for an upgrade. Same with a tablet, because an iPad's specs aren't good as an iPad2 or Android equivalents then those looking to upgrade their tablet or jump into the market could look at a Windows tablet.

The thing Windows has going for them getting into these markets is that there is always the upgradeable option, that people want the next hottest or fastest thing. With the MP3 player, people were only upgrading for more storage size or a touch interface.

Another thing is that iPhone owners, if purchasing a tablet, are probably going to get an iPad and Android owners will purchase Android tablets. If the Windows Phone sells well and people enjoy the UI, then I don't see why the Windows tablets wouldn't have the same effect.

ZuneHD has superior software, UI, screen, and audio quality to my ipod that it replaced and ultimately they couldn't figure out how to sell them. Based on people's arguments, I think this is comparable to this W8 tablet. Honestly, I think the worst thing for W8 tablets is to have too many options for manufacturers and specs. People will walk into best buy and if they happen to try the cheaper W8 tablet that doesn't have the specs to run it well, they will walk over to the ipads. Go take a look at the android tablets at best buy now, like 1/2 of the cheap ones don't work or can't handle the OS. Not a great first impression. Microsoft probably would have been better off manufacturing their own units and coming it with like 3 specs fine tuned to sell a product.
