I'm doing an upgrade in a few weeks, I have £500 to spend on a CPU + Mobo, reckon I should wait till Ivybridge and Z77 or go for the 3820 + X79?

Yes, there is no reason at this point to upgrade to SB with ivy so close! Higher overclocks, and clock for clock 4-5% faster thumb.gif

I stay optimistic about March 23rd but either way still expect at the very least mid-April as preliminary reports originally claimed confident.

Sounds like a scam to Nvidia fanboys that will buy before a review comes out without true performance figures.

If my PC died tomorrow, I'd order a SNB CPU and 1155 board that same day. That is one example.

( i use a 22" 1080, i dont see why people use 24"+ monitors, as they are not as crips ( pixel density ) )
We wont see a big push in system requirements until at least a year after the next gen consoles come out ( with the exception of PC originated titles and not console ports )
Unfortunately for us, developers see the big paychecks in consoles ( understandable ofc )

Once you got 30" you never ever go back. Hopefully this 680 can push my res a little better than my 580 can. Fingers crossed!

This. I got a Dell 3007WFP-HC almost three years ago for only $650 with 5-year Dell warranty, they're not that much more expensive than a decent monitor normally is, if you wait for a deal. The S-IPS panel can't be beaten for quality, and the pixel density is *better* than a lower-res setup. Once you've actually owned a 30", you understand the quality it brings to the table both resolution-and-color-wise, and the addiction for high-end GPU's begins in earnest!

didn't most retailers remove the gtx 590 from their catalog already? It's so hard to find.

OT: sweet! Both Ivy and Kepler are just in time for my new build biggrin.gif

Not really a huge difference in actual gameplay

Simply put CPU/GPU's are far too powerful for what titles are out there.....exceptions being BF3, Metro 2033 etc. But as a whole nothing warrants the hardware cost in gaming like it once did.
Once the highest end GPU was a sure bet in getting that absolute pinnacle of performance and eye candy out of that bad ass game, now it's easily done on a mid range card. Great for the consumer that doesn't have too many pennies to throw about, but it's still a bad take on how things are slacking in PC game development.

If this is equal to 7970 performance and around the same price or less I'll get one right away. I need a faster GPU for folding and gaming, and unfortunately the 7970 is a terrible card for folding (it's equivalent to my GTX 275).
