Probably more when it goes rtm. As far as app's... I don't know what to tell you. Software publishers will be going that way as they are what is currently "in"
Don't like Metro, disable it. nuff said

I held off on my comments about Windows 8 during the time only the developer preview was available, wondering if there would be significant tweaks to it with the Consumer Preview.

Now I've played with the consumer preview for a while...

...I won't be buying Windows 8 until I absolutely have to. Hopefully they don't pull stupid 'must have Win 8 for awesome game X' tricks like they did for Vista/DX10

...

...

I say this with practically every new release of Windows, but I wish MS would make a 'Windows Gaming Edition' which is super-cut down without all the extra junk like Windows Media Player, DVD Maker, this-that-and-the-other, a billion and one drivers, the contents of the linen closet and the kitchen sink. Most 'gaming' peripherals need custom drivers anyway, so what do we need? XGA graphics, basic USB drivers (keyboard/mouse/memory stick support) LAN drivers, stripped-down Internet Explorer (for those without a second PC, or the ability to download Firefox/Opera/Chrome from elsewhere). If you've got those, you can get everything else.

I'm laughing because you guys went back and forth on the Metro UI vs. Start Menu, and HardheadedMurphy replied all smug "Don't like Metro, disable it. nuff said" to which you were like "YOU CAN'T DISABLE IT". It's funny because he was being all smug about it like he knew what he was talking about, like "whatever dude, just disable it" and then got smacked down...

It's funny! Really funny!!! Now I'm laughing again, even more now because of your comment...it's funny on so many levels lachen.gif

Don't get me wrong, I adore the Metro UI on my phone... but that's because I can't hook up a mouse and keyboard to my phone. My desktop has a 30" monitor. That's a lot of scrolling for me to do to open some stupid app (I get a bad taste in my mouth every time I say that stupid word coined by Jobs mad.gif)

I'm with you friend. I hate it too, and what makes me even more irritated is the fact that Windows 8 is otherwise actually a really good OS! I have a 2560x1440 screen and I know exactly what you are talking about, not to mention the irritating delays for popups, the fact that I have to shove my mouse into corners or sides of a screen to get context menus and certain basic options...well, you see where I am going with this.

Don't even get me started on "Apps". I think that it is a cash cow for the industry but it is in many ways a shameful put-down of the software engineering profession. The crap that is released out there is just mind boggling. I genuinely dislike the trend, at least in its current form.

And no, unless there's a few changes made to windows 8, i won't be buying it either.

I'd rather run Vista with 256mb of ram with a 80mb harddrive and 56k dial-up with a two-button mouse, all connected to a 13" monochrome monitor.
