Have a single version like OS X, if the anerage joe doesnt need 16GB or RAM, it doesnt stop them.
If the average joe isnt going to join a domain, it doesnt stop him.
If this was Apple people would be screaming bloody murder, the ONLY reason Microsoft does this is to get more money..... Its not about features.....
Im sorry, but...
-Microsft does not release their OS bi yearly
-Their service packs are hardly free considering you still pay up to $445 for their full feature verson compared to $29
-OS X updates are free also
-Functional changes? And OS X hasnrt had any functional changes in the past few updates....

There's more than one version of OSX, so you're point is invalid. There's also hundreds of linux distros, further invalidating your point. smile.gif You're comparing a full featured OS to an update, not sure how smart that is considering they're targeted at different clients...

You get a more flexible and more portable OS for just $99 OEM or free if you're a student like myself.

FYI, W7 SP1 added 800 hotfixs and security updates. In the past year, Apple has only fixed 90 bugs they deem critical. Service packs are far larger... I'm not even sure how you can compared it to Lion where you're mainly getting new software or updates to old ones. I would much rather not have bloatware(re: crap that I don't use) in my updates... I'm more than capable of searching the internet and DL my own softwares.

8 distros is a bit much in my opinion, but comparing it to Apple's model is nonsense. When Apple starts competing with Windows in desktop and server spaces, then maybe we could consider their model.

@Topic
Ya'll stop crying over metro, if you don't like it stick to Windows 7 there's not that much of a difference between the two. Other then 8 being faster and better. Bring on the Windows 8!

You're totally missing the part where they are intentionally limiting features for profit.

Should only have three versions:

Windows 8 Home
Windows 8 Ultimate
Windows 8 ARM

One of the things I love about OS X is there's only one version for everything biggrin.gif

Actually, there's only 2 versions of OS X. Server and Client. His point is still very valid. Yes, there's tons of linux distros, but you don't see Ubuntu Home, Ubuntu Home Premium, Ubuntu Professional, Ubuntu Professional Plus, Ubuntu Enterprise, Ubuntu Server. It's just.... Ubuntu. You can't simply go off of "there's thousands of Linux distros." So what? They're, for the most part, all FREE. And again, each Distro isn't pushing out multiple versions.

MS is trying to suck the money out of users, and corporations. This is the very reason many companies are still running Windows XP. Getting a license to run 7 on thousands of machines is prohibitively expensive.

There is absolutely ZERO reason to have 8 different versions of an OS. Client and Server are understandable. A different version for mobile processors is understandable. But to sit there and pretend that MS is doing everyone a favor by not including certain "features" is ridiculous.
