They show relative performance for all resolutions what a joke... all anyone with a 7970 is going to care about is 1920x1080 and up....

I read the the sabertooth's thermal armor actually causes some parts to run warmer then board without, when using a non stock cooler (stock cooler blows down on to the mobo as well as the heatsink, which is where the thermal armor does it's best i read.)
Asrock board is same price, has 12+1 phase (should be great for overclocking) and has pretty damn decent motherboard cooling.
To answer your original question, yes your phenom will run fine on a 900 series board, they are am3 compatible.
And Piledriver will run on the 900 series chipset as well, to answer your final question.
Not that it matters (Because OP is not a big overclocker apparently), but you're wrong. The Fatal1ty board is worse for overclocking, and below what one would expect for $190. It makes up for it in other respects, but 12+1 or not, the board is an overclocking dud.

No im sorry, a max OC;d phenom II X4 will absolutley destroy a max OCd FX 4 thread on the same cooler. So unless you want to invest in a phase change or cooler solution, dont believe that a 4 thread FX will beat a 4 core phenom II X4 max ocd (a 4.2 Ghz phenom OC is to a 4.8 Ghz FX OC +- 0.1 Ghz)

A good check for this is to look at highly threaded benchmarks where phenom still pulls ahead. BUT.. dont forget that FX WILL still wipe the floor with the phenom in some specific benchmarks where the phenom arch shows its age. (Look to specific sisoftware sandra 2012 / Passmark / AID64 benchmarks etc) .

Another example is if you want to use fast memory such as 2133+ , the FX will shine with it while the Phenom will fail to boot. So its all depending on what your looking for really. I suspect in gaming an OCd phenom II X4 will match an OCd FX 4170, but be behind whenever they are fully scaled. The difference comes in the scaling, not the single core performance. Remember a 4 threaded FX 4170 is more comparable to a dual core or three core phenom II X3.

When trinity comes out this will be more comparable to the Phenom II X4s. Scaling will still be behind , but IPC caught up to Phenom I Arch, (I suspect steamroller Vishera core 3rd gen Bulldozer core will match Phenom II IPC with ridiculous OCs on more threads, and i suspect power will reduce 25-30% but still not enough to match the phenom II X6) with OC range over 5.2 Ghz due to aggressive power reduction tactics for AMD's next flagship (remember how AMD ocs are only limited by heat?). This puts it just ahead of a 4 core Phenom II X4 max OCd, so by this time phenom IIs will be slowly phased out.

I would wait for AMD's Piledriver cpus and the 1090fx motherboards IMO.

Just a quick question.when you compare the 4100 overclocked vs the phenom II overclocked,in this comparison except the ghz on the cores, what about the cpu_nb on the phenoms?do you overclcok that as well to lets say 2800 or no?
