Question about the AMD Bulldozer FX-4170 4.2GHz - Page 4

I understand your comparison, I have Phenom II 965 would you think instead of going FX maybe going to Phenom II 980? I've already got my 965 at 4 GHz

Better off wait for Piledriver. Or get FX-81xx series. With FX, only 81xx series is really worth it.

In the meantime maybe I should do a memory upgrade. I've got some Samsung 1333mhz DDR ECC RAM I am not runing the memory in ECC mode. I keep reading reviews that its a noticable upgrade to go to 1866MHz memory I just don't believe that very much.

And would increasing my memory speed up my overclock abiltiy?

No, but it will increase your performance noticeably. This is because memory controllers in AMD CPU aren't as good as MC in Intel CPU.
