Need help, PC shuts off and fans not spinning

Thread Starter
I was just on my PC not doing anything too power demanding when it shut off. I restarted and i didn't have an picture and the fans were not spinning.

I shut it off again and unplugged the power for 30 secs, I had a picture but the fans only spin if I push them (and there really slow)

My guess is it's my PSU (it's a pretty cheap one but has been working fine for 2+ years) the brand is powercool and it's 750w

I don't want to leave it on if it's going to damage my computer, I'm in the process of upgrading my hole computer but the PSU is one of the last things to be done.

It's not really a problem if i have to get a new one but if you think it's something else i would appreciate you help.

Thanks

I think you're likely right about the cause - a failing PSU. That would be the first thing I would check because the problem is not isolated to a single component (like, a single fan going bad, or the video not working while everything else does).

Good luck! thumb.gif

Sounds to me like you're right saying the psu. If the fans wont go without you pushing them, then they aren't getting enough voltage to start.

I would be inclined to say its the PSU too. so theres a 3rd vote. :-) But to be sure - don't you have a multimeter handy, which you could use just to check all the power lines? it would just confirm it for you? The reason I'm saying that, is it could be the fan power control on the motherboard that's went to the wall. A quick check with the meter on all the PSU powerlines, and the fan connectors would tell you exactly what's went wrong.
