witcher 2 on 3930k and gtx590

Thread Starter
ok i was getting like 24fps before with everything maxed out.

then did some research and modified some stuff in the nvidia browser or something modified some binary code for sli and now it's 35-40fps.

oh at 1080p 60hz. no patch installed like the 1.1 and 1.2, will i see more improvement if i do?

1080p is low res. how is anybody get 120fps on that game or is my computer still not fast enough?

put it to 4.5ghz made no difference than 3.8ghz. so leave it at that.

something ubermode is on. looks better with it on. yeah if turn off easily 60fps.

It's for the simple fact that you're using Ubersampling.

Turn that off, you won't reach a stable 60fps with Ubersampling mode for at least another GPU generation, I doubt even Kepler would be able to handle 60fps at all times using it.

Even with 3 GTX580's I can't keep 60fps at all times at 2560x1440 with Ubersampling.

turn off ubersampling... it will kill your performance.

just enjoy the game with it off.

Witcher 2 is a tough game to run, and it not very optimized. Without OCing your GPU, 40 FPS sounds about right for vanilla. You really should patch the game (all the way to 2.0). The patch (from what I've read) helps a lot in terms of performance. Also, what driver version are you using?

i wouldnt say its not very optimised as its running dx9 and if you turn on all the eye candy its a friggin stunning game despite running on dx9.

on a single gtx 580 and 1080p resolution the game is totally playable so long as you tun off ubersampling and according to OP even his gtx590 struggles with it on!

45 fps is quite playable as its not a first person shooter and playing with an xbox controller makes it even more fun.

I don't think you get what optimized means here. DirectX is simply an API for communicating with the GPU. It doesn't say anything about the quality of the graphics possible. And the fact that the Witcher 2 uses only DX9 proves my point. If they used DX10 or 11 (which support more advanced calls to the GPU), they would be able to take advantage of the hardware-side optimization, which would give you exactly the same graphics with less demand on the GPU or CPU. I can make a stunning game that uses just a CPU for all graphics processing, but it won't run much faster than 1 FPS on a server farm. That's the very definition of unoptimized.

I agree. Ubersampling, though it gives you nicer images, is huge waste of hardware. It requires that each frame be rendered multiple times. Even with DX 11 (which could take advantage of the much more advanced shader programing), this would still be a huge drain, though you would definitely see better FPS.
