doh.gif Of course its going to kill it. Consoles have to adhere to limits specifically power limits. Your imaginary 2600k console would be drawing 95W on the processor itself.

1) throw a bulldozer in there
2) force devs to utilize FMA4, XOP, & CVT16 instruction sets
3) ?????
4) profit

not when the software is coded to use it

c-rayir38.png

Grafici_FMA4.png

yep you saw that correctly; up to 20x faster than the 2600k

also, even though 7-zip doesn't utilize XOP instruction sets yet the 8150 still wins because of its eight integer cores (what's holding it back in consumer real-world use is SSE-based FP operations)

I actually have already put aside around 650.00 for the PS4 & roughly about 550.00 for the 720 just in case. I am not sure what the prices will be but I am ready to pay but the tech better be there. Its my own personal preference as I stated. I DO want a AMD/ATI GPU but as I said I WANT a Sandy/IVY CPU but more then likely I will be stuck with a AMD CPU & will buy it either way.

The thing is, they make consoles for the masses - not the top 15% percent of the world. By your own logic we wouldn't even need consoles - everyone could just buy $700 gaming PCs and call it a day. So obviously affordability is an issue. There are a lot of people who can't afford to spend $600+ on a console, but there are even more who chose to do other things with that much money. Consoles are the definition of luxury: They aren't as vital as a TV, and you can't do all the things you can do with a PC (homework, business, photoshop etc.). That's a lot of money for such a specialized toy that has a life cycle far shorter than say a good home theater system of the same price.

If you can afford it there's nothing wrong at all. Just be mindful that very few can, and even fewer are willing.

Allow me to enlighten you my friend...

1) You DO realize that consoles have heat and power restraints right? These aren't PC's with all the fans and heatsinks - where is all that heat going to go? The same applies for laptops and smartphones as well.

2) GPU bottleneck will limit a high end CPU to virtually the same performance as a mid-range so what's the point of spending more?

3) The whole advantage of consoles is having software tailored to specific hardware - thus yielding much better performance. Using all optimizations for a CPU custom designed for the PS4 the performance gap wouldn't even be worth mentioning.

While I agree wholeheartedly the 2600k isn't/shouldn't happen, a custom i3 with "HD3000" graphics could make a nice PS4. Especially if it were an IB, since they're (supposedly) concentrating on GPU power this gen.

..That's what my brain says. But my heart says Llano.

Talk about cherry picking benchies...

Try showing something gaming relevant, or at least a fair sample of win/lose/draw and then it will be commendable. Integrity at stake..
