Hyper threading?

Thread Starter
I'm a big gamer.

I play Everquest II, Lord of the Rings Online, Vanguard, etc.

#1. Would I get better FPS with hyper threading enabled or disabled?
#2. If it's better to disable it, are there any circumstances when it's better to have it enabled? Just want a good rule of thumb answer on this. Thanks.

I dont know about OC'ing with HT on. But for gaming, you should always leave it on, as it is a simulated second core. 2 cores are better than one, even if it is simulated.

yea, leave it on. basically it has no drawbacks whatsoever... all it really does is picks up on idle clocks and uses them for other processes (im pretty sure thats how it works). its not as efficient as dual core though it does work the same way.
if you aren't doing anything else while gaming, and the games aren't multi-threaded, then the performance gain will be close to zero... but if they're multithreaded, or you do something thats the least bit cpu intensive in the background, then sure, hyperthreading will give you a nice performance boost.

like legoman786 said though, im not too sure about how it effects heat or overclocking either.

even if it's not multi threaded, leaving HT on will help especially when u have other background processes like anti virus, this will probably reduce the lag...
