500$ watercooling budget - Need help!

post #1 of 3
Thread Starter
Hi everyone!
This is my first post on OCN ever, so I am new! (:
And sorry about my bad english, hopefully you still wanna help me (:

I have finaly desided to build a watercooling rig for my computer, BUT i do have a budget and some requirements!
My budget is around 500$ There is a chance I can go up too 600$ But i don't know too much about watercooling and what parts I need to have a real good setup! mostly for show of tho. Just saying wink.gif Planing to do some overclocking, but nothing extreme! biggrin.gif

My rig is:
Motherboard: Asus Crosshair IV Formula
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition
GPU: 2x ATI Radeon HD 6870
Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D
PSU: Corsair HX 850W ( Planning to upgrade to the AX 1200W )

399

Just a pic of the inside!

I want my inside to be black and red, very clean and not to much light and UV stuff. so i would love to get some of the EK waterblocks, looks awesome and clean! ( I am thinking about the EK-Supreme HF High Flow CPU Water Block "Easy Mount" Copper or nickel?! - Red Plexi/Black as an CPU waterblock. )

I want the radiator(s) to be mounted inside of the case and same with the water reservoirs and pump wink.gif Can do some easy modding if needed!
The tubings is going to be pure black, like the promochill Primoflex with PrimoChill Anti-Kink Coils, Gloss Red ofc wink.gif

If I can't get the GPU cooling within the budget i can stick to only cpu and upgrade later (;

If I forgot something, then tell me about it and I will answare as good as posible (:
And I appreciate some tip about watercooling till future builds (:

Thx!

This is an old system that I've had laying around. It sounds exactly like what you are after. I'm about to sell it to a family member since it consists of older gen EK blocks.
You could do something similar except use full coverage 6870 blocks (your cards need to be ref design)
For cooling, the system consists of:

~ 6 foot Black Tygon R3400 AAE00038 1/2 x 3/4" Tubing
x9 3706 hose clamps
x1 EK Nickel/Acetal GTX 275
x1 EK Nickel/Acetal Supreme LTX
x1 XSPC RX360 Radiator
3x SFF21F Scythe S-Flex Fans
x8 Bitspower 1/2" ID Barbs BP-WTP-C01
x1 XSPC D5 Bay reservoir (#1167)
x1 Danger Den Fillport above the res
x1 Bitspower BP-MBWP-C31 - Drain line from GTX 275

Loop: Pump/Reservoir --> CPU Inlet --> Chipset block --> GPU Block --> Radiator --> Pump/Res

If you're purchasing everything brand new, you should be able to keep it in the $500-$600 range if you don't mind going with barbs/clamps, but if you're wanting compression fittings and/or rotary fittings, you'll probably have a hard time hitting that budget unless you get some used parts. The GPU water blocks are going to eat up half of your budget brand new, and with the 6870's still being popular you may have a hard time finding them used. You shouldn't have any problems fitting everything internal on the 800D, and the EK blocks for both CPU and GPU are fine to use if that's what you like the look of. As for what radiator to suggest, that's going to depend on what kind of fans you want... Do you already have fans for this? If not, what kind of noise level are you looking for? For pump, something like the MCP-35X or the 655/D5's would be just fine here.
