Honestly, though many have stated this- I think you should still get new hardware.
Sure, there is no visible damage now, but you're going to be doing an RMA with the cooler, might as well replace the other components that were directly wet as well.
In a few weeks, or months, when you need to go and sell that card, I'm sure you won't be able to get normal asking price- mainly because it WAS wet before, though it was mild, it was already damp.
Hell, you stated that it spiked in temperature with liquid on the PCB/backplate- I'm sure this should tell you something.
Some sort of liquid has got to hit a special spot, and increased temperature whether it may be by inflicting damage, or just interrupting general cooling.
I built my somewhat first decent computer with used components- I loved the fact that my HD6950 was spotless, came in all original boxing, and was cleaned before it arrived.
I treat this thing so carefully, since all my hard work went into the payment for it, as well as building it.
You noted you did the same, might as well wait that extra week or two, just to be sure nothing else is going to crap out on you... 2...3 months later.
I'm pretty sure taking off the backplate/cleaning down to the board itself will raise a few flags, let alone void a warranty?
At least, it would on my BFGTech GTS 250 card, where there were voided warranty stickers over every screw.
Just be safe, replace the wet hardware, and have fun in the long run.
Just my two cents.

I cleaned everything off and applied some of my Arctic Silver 5 that I've had for a year and never used lol.
