VF3000N on reference 6870?

Thread Starter
The stock cooling on my two reference XFX HD 6870s isn't all that great so I've been looking for aftermarket coolers and found this http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=390

Does anyone know if this will fit on a reference HD 6870?

This cooler is specifically optimized and designed for reference VGA cards NVIDIA GeForce GTX260, GTX275, GTX285.

Just use this guide if you don't mind losing your warranty. It should run a couple °C cooler after you dust it out and add some good TIM such as MX-4.

It's already out of warranty since the other night I took my 6870s apart to reapply the TIM, used some Noctua paste I had laying around and there was no change in the temps on either card.

I'm more curious if the cooler would fit, can't really find much info if it would or not.

Which models of VGA cards are compatible?

VF3000A: Reference ATI Radeon HD5830, HD5850, and HD5870 are compatible.
VF3000N: Reference NVIDIA GeForce GTX285, GTX275, and GTX260 are compatible.
VF3000F: Reference NVIDIA GeForce GTX465, GTX470, and GTX480 are compatible.

This was under the FAQ tab page 2. Was also listed on the cautionary notes on the bottom of the page you linked to. In other words, no it will not fit.

Here are some coolers that will fit a reference 6870.

Hope this helps and good luck! thumb.gif

I think the VF3000A will fit with modification. Another alternative is the GELID Icy Vision, which is designed for the 6XXX series.
