Opinions on this configuration please :)

Hi, I think I've decided on components for my upcoming upgrade, if you could give your thoughts and any relevant recommendations I'd be very grateful.

CPU - Intel Core i7 3820

Motherboard - ASUS IV Rampage Extreme BF3 Edition (the site I'm buying from doesn't have the none BF3 edition so I'll be giving away the copy of BF3) - £320 / $500

RAM - Possibly G-Skill RipjawsX 8GB/ 16GB but undecided so far - Setting aside £90 / $150 but would prefer to spend more like £60 / $90

CPU Cooler - Corsair H100 - £80 / $130

This will all be paired with what I currently have:

Case - Cooler Master HAF-X

GPU - EVGA GTX 580

PSU - Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 800W

Boot Drive - OCZ Agility 120GB SSD

Any opinions/ ideas will be considered and appreciated.

Thanks again.

NB: I'll be using this rig for gaming and folding.

Looks good. I don't know is RAM is used much during folding, but I went with 16gb because it was 9 dollars more than 8 gb biggrin.gif.

I'm beginning to think the Rampage 4 Extreme may be a little excessive for me.

Any plans for extreme OCing? That choice could save you an extra few bucks on the MB if your primary goals isn't extreme OCing. A lot of good boards out there that is better on the budget and still gets some good OCing.

Looks good, why not get a 7970 or wait for Kepler?

@xP_0nex - I'm getting an i7-3820 so no, not at the moment

@strych9 - I'm an Nvidia fanboy and I see no point upgrading my GPU without first upgrading my CPU/ Mobo/ RAM, my current plan is to get another GTX 580 or two next Xmas.

ASUS RAMPAGE IV FORMULA

This Motherboard looks to be very similar and it's £50 cheaper, may be a good option?

Yeah I was considering that but then the Extreme looked much better with the 8 RAM slots and some of the extra features, and I've been reading reviews for the Extreme and it says it's an excellent board even if you don't do major overclocking i.e. LN2 cooling level stuff.

I'll have to have a think about it because the extra £50 would give me more room to afford the case fans I want (they are costing £90 mad.gif )

Thanks for the help!

I don't see a problem with going with the cheapest one as long as it suits your needs. What's the point of paying a premium for extra features outside of your needs?
