oh lol !!

G1 Assassin 2 is overpriced? LOL

it have in-built "Creative CA20K2" X-Fi sound card which is worth $100 or $170 !!

Also,it have in-built "Bigfoot Killer E2100" NPU worth $90 !!

All in all it is a gaming mobo..

and u call it overpriced?

I already have an equivalently priced sound card, I'm not convinced I'd need the NPU and it doesn't have 8 slots for RAM. tongue.gif

I've come to the conclusion that I am building a rig more than I would need, which is pointless considering that I have a budget to keep to. For the time being I think I am going to go with a 2700k and the P8Z68 Deluxe, I think anything more would be me just wasting money considering I've never even tried overclocking before.

Thanks for all the help. biggrin.gif

Smart man. And the 2700k may still be more than what you need but is more reasonably priced than what you were looking at before. Especially if you are on a budget.

Never spend more than what you can afford.

Never buy more than what you are going to be able to use.

I try to live by those two things. Does not always work.

I actually come in under budget if I go for the 2700K and the P8Z68, but then if I go for an awesome Z68 motherboard (Maximus 4 Extreme Z) then it ends up at only £10 less than the SB-E setup with the 3820 and the R4E. tongue.gif

I know that the 2700K is generally better for games than the 3820, but what about folding? I feel left out on this site by not doing it so I thought now would be a good time to start and from what I can gather the 3820 is better for video-encoding and might have more raw processing power?

The difference between the 2700k and 3820 is small in anything. However, the 3930k is much better for folding and that, but as youve said its out of budget

Yeah the 3930K is too much at the moment unless I could find a £100 ($160) motherboard. tongue.gif

I'm just finding it awkward having to think through what my next upgrade will be (after this one) so I make the right decision. biggrin.gif

IB-E is supposed to be lga 2011. What i was planning to do was purchase a x79 board and an 3820 to hold me over till IB-E launched, then pick up a 3930K or a 2nd teir 8-core(if they're 8 core) IB-E chip as an upgrade. I personally wouldn't go with the 2700k, if you need the HT capabilities, the 3820 is cheaper than the 2700k and provides you an avenue for MOAR cores down the line as a mid-platform upgrade (with roughly %10 less performance). The cheaper price of the 3820 should offset the more expensive MB.

IMO tongue.gif

Wife got in the way of my budget, and the price premium for HT on z68 wasn't worth it IMHO. Don't go with z68, I believe that the platform is locked to 4 cores till EOL.

Thanks for the advice, that does seem a good idea, however I'm not sure I'd be able to sell on the 3820 later on, maybe I'd have to keep it an make a mini folding rig. biggrin.gif

The cheapest I can find it is £450, which means I could just about afford it if I bought it with this:

I think I'll have to stick to the 3820. wink.gif
