Need mechanical keyboard [delete, please]

I have read the guide, a long time ago, but don't remember much (besides the different switches).

This is what a I prefer, the feel of a keyboard that feels like a Macbook pro keyboard (on the laptop). I know these are typically not as elevated as other keys, so I'm not sure how that would effect my preference. I would like to to be silent, but that is not going to seal the deal... I'm trying to stop gaming at night, because I might as well sleep, and play in the morning. I don't care for LEDs, if anything I'm moving away from the lights all over my computer phase... (hehe). I'm not sure if I want the "clicking" feeling or the "mushy" feeling, what kind of switches are on the Macbook pro? That might help me decide.

I prefer to buy from a store, like Best Buy or Frys, because they are so close.... but I can buy from tiger direct/ebay/newegg... just recommend me where and what's the best bang for buck. I'd prefer to spend $100, but I'm willing to flex my budget to have something I will use for over three years.

I'm trying my best here, haha. I just want to buy a keyboard, ASAP. I don't think reading will help guides on which key is right for me will help... I'll go search Frys website, I'm not sure why I'm in a huge rush.... but I'm tired of using non-mechanical keyboards... there has to be something with mroe quality than my $10 compaq keyboard.

Macbook pros as all laptops use membrane scissor switches, which feel slightly better than a regular rubberdome keyboard. Since ripster isnt here to suggested here you go:

http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Keyboard-Numeric-MB110LL-VERSION/dp/B005DLDTAE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1330743974&sr=1-1

In fact most super slim keyboard will work for you because they use the scissor switches, the apple one just seems to have decent quality.

The macbook pro uses scissor switches I believe.. You won't find a mechanical keyboard that feels like a scissor switch...the closest would be a blue switch.

As for a speficic keyboard... I like my Das, but that's the only one I've ever had so take my suggestion with a grain of salt

I'm really trying to get one for no more than $110, including CA tax, at a store in the San Fernando Valley.

I doubt I'll find the right keyboard for me in Best Buy or Frys.... frown.gif

If blue is the cloest I'll get, I'll give that a shot... I'm on the store websites, this is gong to sound bad... but does Razer make a "quality" keyboard that might have these switches?

I see the Lycosa and Blackwidow.

____

EDIT: If you want to help me find a decent mechanical keyboard from Best Buy/ Frys, my Zipcode is 91206. I'm willing to drive to Glendale/Burbank.

Let me know wink.gif

I just saw this keyboard, and it looks very classy!!! I also like the fact it has an arm rest (which I don't have room for, unless it's four inches long.

I don't want to buy a product that hasn't been recommended, like Razer/Logitech, and I don't want a gaming gimmick keyboard.

I'm going to buy online, but.............

there is one other option:

to buy a scissor style MAC keyboard, but I really wanted one without a numeric pad that's wired (they only sold the wireless, and its discontinued).

as far as performance goes, is there any difference between all the variety of cherry switces and a scissor style?

*sorry, I just realized I didn't edit and made a second back to back post*

My cousin has the corsair keyboard. He likes it a lot.

And yes, the feeling of typing on different switches can be very different. You should revisit the mechanical keyboard club thread and read up on it.

NCIX has a nice collection of Mechboards: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?minorcatid=101&subminorcatid=1065

I've read them before, it's just hard to grasp which is for me.

I understand there are different feels, like if there is a bump or not, and I'm not sure which I would like.

As far as noise goes, it's not a huge issue, because I'm trying not to game at night.

I would like it without a numeric pad, because I don't have a huge tray... and would like more mouse room.

I just want the layout to be traditional, I don't want to get use to something, because if I have a job... that has a different keyboard, I'd hate to get use to it again.

I know key feel is the most impotant, but since I have no clue which style I want.... looks like I have to gamble, and since I'm really broke... it's really frustrating (hehe).
