Upgrading Front End HTPC

Thread Starter
I recently bought a new SSD for my Front End HTPC, but the motherboard I currently have (Asus M2N-e) does not see the SSD and doesn't support AHCI, so it's time to upgrade!

Old
CPU: AMD Athlon 4200+ x2 2.2Ghz
Mobo: Asus M2N-e
Ram: 2gb DDR2 @ 667Mhz
GPU: 9500GT 512MB
HDD: WD 250
PSU: Antec SL 350W (~8 years old perhaps?)
Case: Cool Master Elite 335

The main reason for upgrade is the HDD. Lately it has been clicking a lot and is very slow (HDTune wouldn't even finish, so I know it's on the way out!). So I figured I would just throw in the SSD. But since the SSD doesn't want to play nice, time to do more upgrades!

New
CPU + iGPU: AMD A6-3500 Llano 2.1GHz (2.4GHz Max Turbo) Socket FM1 65W Triple-Core Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 6530D
Mobo: MSI A75MA-G55 FM1 AMD A75 (Hudson D3)
Ram: Crucial Ballistix sport 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3
HDD: Mushkin Enhanced Callisto DX2 Series MKNSSDCL80GB-DX2 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (I already own this)
PSU: Same (for now)
Case: Same (for now)

Note: I am not buying from newegg. They are for reference links only. I am buying locally @ Microcenter; CPU + iGPU, Mobo and RAM. Cost is ~$167 w/ tax.

The main purpose for this computer is to serve up XBMC, as a front end. All of my media is stored on a local server. Light web browsing and very light gaming is expected as well.

I got some information from this XBMC thread to get an idea on best cost-to-performance ratio. I will eventually be switching to a mATX case with a new PSU.

Just want someone else to take a quick peek to before I purchase tonight and pick up tomorrow morning smile.gif

So does this build look good?

Thanks for looking!

Looks absolutely overkill. I like it. smile.gif

Note, an AMD E-350 setup (board, CPU, onboard video for $114 for an Asus passive cooled) would do just as well honestly.

This is OCN. There is no such thing as overkill smile.gif

Also, the case I have is a Cool Master Elite 335. I updated the OP with it as well.

There's no reason why an ssd wouldn't work in that board. Have you tried flashing the latest bios?
