@Edge Of Pain
I'm gonna be playing at 1900 x 1080 on a 27" monitor.
Will the one GTX 580 3GB give at least 45 fps for most game? On highest?

Wow. That PSU looks sick.
But what about the company's name?
I haven't been into computers for too long, but I haven't heard of XFX much.
Corsair on the other hand, is everywhere.
And would you know if this has any of those wires that split in two?

Like the 24pin one splits into two as it connects to the PSU or something else that would be a hassle to sleeve?

XFX is a pretty well known name, if my power supply ever goes, my next one will be the one I recommended.

Ok then. =)
XFX it is

And I decided to go with one of these
EVGA GTX 580 Classified 3GB.

This PSU will give me room to SLI in the future right?

There literally is no reason to get the GTX 580 anymore, especially with the 600 series supposedly coming out in march.

If you want the best bang for your buck, get any 7950 or 7970. They have a very modest stock clock and will run everything better than on a 580.

600 series in March?
Is this from some recent article?
I'm sure if it was coming out this month, there would be some announcement.

My plan for now is to get one card.
Then go for SLI when the 600s come out.

But if they are coming this month...
Then I can wait.

God...don't suppose. nVidia said that they'll only launch when they have enough stock, and they've apparently started production so it'll be at least another month. As for high end, I doubt they'll launch immediately, this is nVidia....

Seriously though OP what's up with you?

Why do you hate AMD so much?

Get ONE 7950, I'd personally recommend the MSI twin frozr 3 version, or the sapphire 7950 dual-x version. They'll OC at least slightly, and at stock they beat the 580's, with less power, even on BF:3.

If you have any issues with one AMD/ATI card, which I doubt will happen, PM me and I'll personally help you, or you could post a thread here and get help.

Also in the future you can see where you want to go from there.

Get another 7950 and crossfirex? Get a 7990 and tri-fire?

Get second generation Kepler? (It'll be pointless throwing away your GPU in 2-4 months)

These are only if you need more performance!

Also the 7950's are THE BEST bang for the buck, and even if you have three of those chips, you'll only need an 850w PSU for three of them (at stock) even with your 2011. But that's slightly pushing it, so I'd recommend you get a QUALITY platinum/gold/silver rated PSU with 1000 watts of power.

Corsair psu's are manufactured by seasonic, and so are XFX's. Seasonic is an OEM, so their PSU's will be the same standard.

There are plenty of other good companies as-well such as silverstone, coolermaster (which I personally own) etc.

If you like sleeved cables, pick up a 1000w corsair gold rated PSU and the sleeved fully modular cables for them. They look REALLY NICE, although they're not the best sleeving.

Anyway...onto your GPU....

The 7950 at EVERYTHING MAXED at 900mhz (OC'd sapphire version) won't net you a constant 60fps at ultra on BF:3. You'll be running around 55 fps. IF you turn down some AF/MSAA/Lighting you'll easily net 60fps (this is on 64 player maps). I'd say you can step down to 2x msaa (over 4x), or SSAO (over HBAO) and you'll get the magic 60 fps. Now you can OC some more to make sure it doesn't dip down under 50 fps (where I PERSONALLY NOTICE IT ON A 60hz monitor).

Now, if you ever decide to get a resolution upgrade or a 120hz display or even if new games come-out which the 7950 can't handle you can do some of the many options I've listed above.

Enjoy whatever you decide to do. biggrin.gif

I NEVER recommend someone waits for UNCOMFIRMED lineups. You'll never regret it tbh. I ordered my motherboard, one week later a better one came in stock for only $30 more. I just went oh well, mine has better quality, works, and I can now run a different setup which I didn't plan on before. This was my case though.rolleyes.gif

AMD is cheaper, more power efficient, cooler, requires only a 750W for CF, and is better in almost all games, especially BF3, Skyrim, and MW3. 2 of them will be about $100 cheaper. Also, If you ever decide to go eyefinity, you will have a better experience.

@JassimH

I know two people who have had AMD cards in their systems. Both of them had trouble with them.

In my first build ever, I ordered a 4000 series.
I honestly can't remember the exact one since I don't have that build anymore.
It arrived DOA.
When I got another one, it ran very hot.
Sometimes while gaming, my screen would become completely white.
I would have to restart my comp.
The tech guy at my school said it was because of my GPU overheating.
I had good cable management and very nice airflow.

I don't know what's up with these cards now since this was all a few years back.
But a lot of people do seem to be recommending the 7000 cards.

My monitor will be this
SAMSUNG S27A950D
1900x1080
120Hz
I know there are cheaper ones.
But every time I see this, I'm like drool.gif

For my PSU. I want to sleeve the cables myself.
And I'm gonna stick with that XFX one.
It looks so nice. =)

Thanks for all the help
