Trying to hookup ASUS monitor to Digital Cable Box-

Hello All,

I have a 24" ASUS monitor that i'm trying to connect to my Digital HD Cable Box - The cable box is from Cox Communications, it's a explorer 8642hdc < Cisco makes them.

Anyways, the cable box has an HDM out, and the monitor accepts HDMI - so i don't understand why it is not functioning. The screen just goes black and blinks a few times and stuff as though it was trying really really hard to work and just couldn't get it going.

Any advice/anyone deal with this??

The cable guy tried two different boxes, same issue both times, multiple resets and what not.

-Side note-

When i previously had a U-verse digital cable box, at first it would not work with my monitor, same issue, but then we tried a second identical box and it just magically worked. We are switching from AT&T to Cox again. ((Only had AT&T for 2 weeks before we had enough of their lousy customer service and went back to our previous provider.))

Thanks for any help!

If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. There aren't a whole lot of options here. Unless someone here knows some secret method for reprogramming your cable box to do this properly. There are usb ports on them IIRC. But such information may be illegal, IDK. smile.gif

Keep trying different cable boxes unless you can find some sort of monitor settings which may need to be changed. But I can't think of anything. Monitors auto-adjust to the type of input being transmitted (DVI, HDMI, etc...) and the resolution is determined by the signal. I've never had to touch my monitors except to adjust colors or the display position. (or adjust 3D specific options, which have no bearing here)

Maybe even try a HDMI to DVI cable if your monitor accepts DVI input. But I don't see how that's going to matter. That's all I got.

So got a new box - without the dvr sadly that is working on my monitor. Raises a new question -

Does anyone know if their is a way to upgrade the firmware on my ASUS monitor? It's about 5-6 years old, still a really nice screen, but the tech said it could be old firmware causing issues with the HDMI trying to communicate with the box & hdmi box.

Not in my experience. The only firmware issue I ever had with a monitor required a RMA to get a new one. They even paid all shipping costs. I'm almost certain it couldn't be done through the normal signal cable anyhow. It would require another method.

If I'm not mistaken there are types of monitors which have a USB port on them and the new firmware gets loaded onto a pre-formatted USB stick. Then when the monitor is powered on with the USB stick plugged in it flashes automatically.

However, I've never owned a monitor with a USB port on it. That may only apply to certain televisions. But I remember reading that somewhere...
