Help on an error I've been looking up recently.

Hey, this is my first post, a cry for help, and hopefully not my last. Not sure if this is the place, I did look, but I apologize if I didn't find the right subforum.

Just wanted to put this out there, as I've seen tons of other threads across various boards. This was the first place I thought of that could help me, and maybe help others at the same time.

I basically got sent an 1100t by a friend, and dropped it, some new ram (8gb pc3-12800) and a 470, for free. They were sittting around. thumb.gif
But after he was done being awesome, I dropped them in, saw some problems ,and went, "eh, I should've reinstalled, lucky it ran..."

But now I'm finding out more and more about various boards out there that are sub-par for the sole purpose of just being... terrible boards, I guess? They're am2/am3, or am2+/am3?

But they seem to have errors running certain processors. I've looked up mine, and it should run in the motherboard, but, bare with me on this...

Wow.

I wasn't sure that was right, read a lot about how it drops the CPU speed to lighten on power, that's fine by me. Except I once had 3 games going at once and it was still 800mhz. (on accident tongue.gif)

I've heard all kinds of mixed info right now, and someone who really knows what's going on would help, but I don't want to push anyone for answers.
What I have so far is:

-Some boards are not rated specifically for the power rating that the chip requires, (BE maybe?) and thus the board won't run them properly. (also heard the HT reverts to 1.0 instead of 2?

-Some boards need bios updates in order to use (updated latest on the site) the processors. But some boards end up changing the clock speed regardless? No clue.

-The model number has a hand in what each board will support. I'm clueless at the moment how to get it. I have Speccy and CPUz and I have looked. Maybe I need to look again?

I'm looking hard myself, and trying tonight before I get to sleep, to overclock the computer to it's rated speed in bios.

If it works, well, it works, but I'd also like to know what's going on with this, and how I can properly fix it. If I can just change the freq, or the clock speed to 16.5 as defaulted, and I'll be happy as can be... Worse case, buying another mobo wouldn't be AS bad, but I have got used to the Instant Boot function, it's super handy.

Thanks in advance.

No, go into the bios and disable cool and quiet, and then go into the control panel in windows and set the power options to high performance, those are 2 of the 3 reasons why a cpu would downclock. The 3rd would be overheating, but since you didn't mention being unstable and shutting off I ruled that out.

I actually have done both of those, did them ASAP, as soon as I realized it was underclocking.

It had no effect, the high performance was also not really much change, I didn't hear any increase or decrease in anything.

what motherboard do you have?I'm guessing AsRock..

That MB(Asrock N68C-S UCC) only supports up to 95w cpu's.
It's probably throttled down for this reason.
Nvtools or PMT(phenommsrtweaker) might get you up to speed, but it would likely melt shortly after.

Good luck

Thanks. I have an Athlon II chip I can make another machine with, so I may make another. My friend also sent me a 200 dollar Intel board, with no intel cores around. :/ But I guess I'll work that out also. Appreciate it!

Hey, thanks, I wasn't able to actually find that info, it said on the site there was one 125w it did support. I don't know if that has any relevance to it, but at least I know I can buy a new board, and get something effective for what I need, in addition to that.

Thanks. smile.gifthumb.gif

The only other reason I bought this mobo is a stopover for a more decent one, and it supported a feature I use all the time, since keeping it functioning like it the other way is crazy, is ASRock's Instant Boot. It's basically a restart and hibernate, but it's amazingly worth it for the shut down time, 4 seconds to start up my PC, and windows hibernate doesn't do it that fast. If anyone has some alternatives on another board, I'd be interested in it. Or even software.
