Noppoo Choc Mini 84 [About to pull trigger, need advice]

I have found the perfect keyboard for my needs. I have a small tray and need as much space for my mouse as possible, and I suppose I might have to get use to this keyboard... since it seems like the keys are cramped together.

I'm not sure which key type to get, and I was set on blacks... but wouldn't I have to bottom out everytime? Doesn't that get painful for hardcore gamers that play for long amounts of time, and don't take breaks?

I switched from FPS -> MMORPG, and I do type a bit & noise isn't that huge of a concern (trying to cut down late night gaming).

I'm not sure if I should go for brown or blue (or even red / black). I believe these keyboards are only available in china, but I see someone selling them on ebay with good feedback.

I see all the switches, and to be honest I'm stuck on which to get... I know everyone has their own preferences, but has anyone personally tried this keyboard that might be a beginner to the scene? or someone with exerpiecne that can give me some feedback?

I have used browns and blues, and to be honest, the blue were cool. Until I got sick of the sound (not everyone will/does).

Blacks are supposed to have much more pressure for them to work. Blues were a delight, they were 'light' for me, and were super-clicky... but they WILL annoy whoever you live with.

Browns have the ability to almost feel like blues, but at the same time be about 70% quieter.

In my opinion, most people that use blues would be happy with browns.

I truly appreciate it, this is the type of post I was waiting for!

Now, I have to decide if a tactile bump is for me or not. In addition, how curteous do I want to be to others around me.

BTW, do these keyboards have a winlock function (like I heard the Ducky's have)?

EDIT: It seems I can get the brown for $90 and the blue for $80 (not including shipping&tax). Furthermore, the red is $110 and the black is $80.

They also sell the keyboard in all white, I'm not sure if this is a good idea since I will use the keyboard four hours a day (minimum).

bought mine from a taobao agent when they were coming out, im a mx browns guy all the way.

the key layout on the boards are slightly cramped and will probably take a day or so of use before your used to typing on it, but they are great little keyboards. Mine is back in its box because I wanted to try mx clears for a while (might like them more than browns, but I hated blacks, blues were okay, but not my preference).

Regardless, they are pretty good quality boards and are a great choice.

Mind adding what you liked/disliked about blues and blacks? and why you are a brown person now? and why you are trying clears?

Thanks in advance!

___

I think I'm going to wait until I know which switch I should buy!

___

Does anyone know if there will be a mini backlit keyboard? I know the PRO is out, but was hoping if there was any news on any new minis?

I'm not sure if I should buy from intilligent-pro or qTan (since qTan has had some comments recently about damage shipping).

My advice: take white version, because it uses PBT keycaps instead of POM.

Get browns if you are undecided. Black are often too heavy, blues are kinda bad for gaming and too noisy, reds are okay too I think (never used them tho!) but browns are the safest option.

Noppoo Choc Miniis really a great keyboard if you like the layout. The only think I dislike are squeeky stabilizators (spacebar!), but you can fix it easily with ducktape or grease.

I tried out some MX blacks, and coming from MX browns they felt really different. It feels like shortly after the key actuates the required pressure increases a lot, so it's really easy to not bottom out because you just kinda float there at that pressure point, it's a cool feeling. But, they did tire my fingers out really quickly, especially compared to my MX browns that I can type/play on for hours with no fatigue.

I think browns are the best beginner switch, they let you get an idea of what you want the most without many cons. They're tactile without the noise or high reset point of blues, they're light so your fingers don't get fatigued, and they're not too tactile (they do feel more linear than blues). They let you gauge what you want the best, in my opinion.

I actually wanted the white more than the black, just to be different (not that it matches much, but some day I want an all white build and I'd be one step more close). I read the guide, but forgot which is preferred, I'm assuming PBT (sounds familiar).

The squeeky spacebar on the keyboard might be an issue, I like to jump in my MMO, haha. I'd like to mod someday, this might be an interesting start! So glad you posted, thanks.

This post was a winner for me, and I will definitely start with browns! Now, I just need to figure out which ebayer to buy from.

qTran I've heard people getting damaged boxes or loose keys with their minis. The other seller has the same amount of positive feedback, but I believe about 10-30x more sales.

Furthermore, how do I figure out if I'm getting the new edition or not? I heard there was an issue with lettering fading on the old ones (don't hold me to it).

Few days late in a reply, but the blues were too loud for use w/ a desktop mic and gaming.. drove people nuts. Aside from that, no complaints really. Blacks weren't my thing because the linear key stroke doesnt really provide any sense of when the activation point is happening. Sure you can figure it out over time, but the only way I can explain it is that it feels sloppy and inprecise. I play a game once in a while called stepmania... its basically dance dance revolution but from the computer (played alot when I was in middle school, give me a break)... anyways... you can use your keyboard to enter the up/down/left/right arrows as the song goes by. It has turned out to be a great test for me with new keyboards. Im pretty good at the game, but with mx blacks, I can never do well for some reason, I cant time the activation point close enough to do as well as I did on my older rubber dome keyboards from logitech.

Keyboards that were bad for me: blacks, reds, fake alps (abs m1)
Keyboards that were great for me: browns, clears (current 24/7 board is a TKL leopold w/ mx clears, prior was a filco m2 ninja TKL <- probably the best made keyboard i've owned)

Got the noppoo in the closet for a rainy day... was considering using it at work, but I am not sure yet. I sorta rotate them in every 4-6 months to keep things interesting tongue.gif

I don't know which version I got, I bought it "very" early on and I have not had a single key fade on me... used it daily for 3 months.

regarding switch type, from someone who's tried brown, black and red: I say go for brown. it has the lightness of red switches, but a slight tactility that would only be noticeable when you really need to (i.e. typing; gaming, it's hardly there).

regarding which choc mini: I personally don't own one (decided to get a filco instead), but I think the white one is better built
