7970: Does yours have coil whine? - Page 6

Mine had whine until I ran some hefty benches, after a few hours it was reduced.
Leave it running through Heaven overnight, it should be gone by morning.

My card was whining and has died down a fair bit now, mostly at higher overclocks, probably more noticeable cuz it's watercooled.

Coil whine is when your displaying 1000+Fps , thats the only time it should happen .. normal gaming i never hear it on my 6970's .. something must be wrong there

All graphics card can have inductor whine at high loads. The copper wire is receiving lots of electricity. It just so happens that electrical frequency can resonate with the copper material.

It is not out of the ordinary. A lot of people's computer fans are loud during load so it drowns out the whine.

Lol my reference 7970s didn't have any coil whine until I put waterblocks on them! Only the one does it, its the one that hasn't gotten the crap kicked out of it with a bitcoin miner yet.

My XFX 7970 DD started to have a terrible noise when in game or just loading the GPU. It's not a whine but rather chattering.
Recently it became more and more noticeable. I don't have a warranty (not even factory), but can something be done about it?

How do you have an XFX card with no warranty? I thought those came with lifetime for the original owner, three years for everyone else.

My Gigabyte Windforce 3 7950 does not have any coil whine, at any speed or voltage I've tried, right to the point of failure. I've stuck my head right up to the case, and the push/pull fans on my Antec Kuhler 620 CPU water cooler are louder than any thing else in my case, including the GPU fans on the Gigabyte card, and I cannot detect any other sound. Same with my best friend's Gigabyte Windforce 3 7950, too.
