HDD storage problem...

Thread Starter
Heya guys...i have a small problem.Actually i have old WD hdd for storage, while SSD is system disk. That WD HDD used to be system before, but when i installed SSD i formated WD HDD partition 1 where windows were before and use it as storage.

Now i have one problem.Space on that partition is 95 gb,but when i collect all 3 folders on it and select Properties it shows to they are 76gb.So according to this there is 19GB free space. But when i open My computer on the icon of that partition it says to there is 5gb free space just.Any1 know what this could be?

There are likely hidden files and folders not accounted for. if you have vista or 7, just type "show hidden files and folders" into the search and set everything to visible.

You can use this to see if there are any hidden files: http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/

I found one strange part with that program. pagefile.sys it's 15.9gb heavy.I have searched a bit and i found to that is equal to RAM memory, but i also got on SSD 112gb instead of 128 (so i guess to it's here also pagefile for RAM) Any advance to delete that pagefile.sys on storage hdd or do something?

So basically i have 15.9gb pagefile.sys on my SSD (system disk) and on my hdd storage disk

Never mind guys, close topic i figured out what is problem...as soon as i moved lower than 15gb free space on SSD it moved automatically pagefile.sys to other hard this where is available space ,and it deleted automatically from SSD...

That is your Page file where windows puts low priority parts of programs. I'm guessing you have like 16GB of RAM?

Just set it to a static 1GB.

Turn Off/Shrink Page file: Applies to SSDs/HDDs
  1. Open the Start Menu
  2. Right click Computer
  3. Click Properties
  4. Click Advanced System Settings (it's on the left side)
  5. Under performance click Settings
  6. Go to the Advanced tab
  7. Under Virtual memory click Change
  8. Uncheck the "Automatically manage paging file" box at the top
  9. Select the C: drive
  10. Click "No paging file" or set the min and max
  11. Click "Set"
  12. Choose Yes for the dialog box
  13. Click OK
  14. Click OK
Note: If you shrink yours then set the minimum size to at least 400MB and the maximum size to 400MB, most people recommend 1024MB and 1024MB. I suggest that if you have 4GB of RAM or less or do heavy multitasking do not disable the page file. Windows 7 does use the page file if present to keep things efficient. Several programs use it like VMWARE, some games, graphics software, MS office, etc. It will only use it when it is efficient to do so. Page file is also read at boot to speed things up. Also, do not put the page file on a secondary HDD or a RAMDisk, it is much better to have it on the SSD. (link 1) (link 2)

If you have alot of RAM you can just disable Page File entirely. Got back about half my SSD doing that.

EDIT: I only recommend it for SSDs however as bootup is so much faster vs an HDD which can actually use the Pagefile effectually on bootup.
