Do you need the Slim slot DVD drive? If not, you can put in an H40/50/60 in there and that'll definitely keep your temps down.

I do need that slim slot dvd drive, so that's not an option frown.gif
If you look at this: 450 than there is pretty decent clearance between the cpu cooler and the psu, or is this to small for a good airflow? (the pic is with an APX-140, Gigabyte H55NUSB3 and Silverstone GS05)

That will be cheaper. Also change the Thermal paste to Arctic Cooling MX2.
I'm currently using MX-4.
How much more airflow should a Gentle Typhoon give? and is it possible to PWM control it by using the cpu fan header on the mainboard or is it always spinning at a fixed speed?

I don't think you appreciate the amount of cooling power the axp140 can offer you. with the front intake fan less then 3 inches away, I would say you stand a good chance of providing sufficient cooling w/o putting a fan on the axp140...

the axp140 offers ALOT more surface area then your old Shuriken. it's something you really should try out before deciding you wont have enough cooling.

I've also got the hdd tray underneath there blocking a large part of the front intake fan.
Maybe I should look into fixing that one on the bottom of the case.

Should I mount the psu with the intake fan on top or below so that it's sucking some of the heat from the cpu out?

Edit: there really is no other place for the 3,5" hdd frown.gif

you could mount an H60 in the horizontal position perhaps.
maybe use some thin fans or a fan on the outer side of the grill to make the drive cage clearance.

as for mounting the HDD
there are ways to make more clearance.
get creative.

It's also a decent spot for a mesh cage for a pair of 2.5" drives SDD+HDD.

Will the bay for the slim-line dvd-drive still fit with that mesh cage? looks pretty neat!
