Agree with rdrdrdrd. Only way to go about it. No way for simultaneous audio streams on different devices that I know of.
At least not in Windows.

You can have both going at the same time. You just need the right software to use and correct settings.

Get the media player Duam Player or called Pot Player
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer

Make sure your main audio is set to the XFi soundcard.

In CCC make sure that each screen is extended. So your main will be your desktop. Your TV will just have your desktop wallpaper.
What will happen is when you play a video, you will have to drag it across your desktop to the other screen, make it full screen and sound will come out your HDMI, and you can game on your PC with your soundcard.

make sure your TV is on and plugged in.

In duam player, right click on screen and a bunch of stuff comes up.
Select Audio, then Audio Renderer. Select AMD HDMI Output.
next select Audio, then S/PDIF Audio renderer. Slect AMD HDMI Output

Depending on what your connected too, be just TV or home theater 5.1/7.1 system, there are more settings to be done.

I never said it was impossible, just difficult and finicky and there is an easy solution... I have never heard of that tool but it can't hurt to give it a shot

Sound cards are easy to install.
Is it PCi or PCI Express?

Install the chip carefully, boot the machine up and install the drivers that came with it.
You have the CD right?

Not much of a hassle. Just simple settings.
Not hard to drag the media player across your screen to the TV.

I use media player classic with the audio output setting set to AMD HDMI Output and Windows default audio set to my Asus DX. I just drag the media player over to my TV, fullscreen it and I can still play games just fine at the same time with it's sound coming out of my headphones
